Deep crimson in colour. Notes of blackberry and other black fruits, quite bold for a Coonawarra (cool climate) Shiraz. In this warmer year of 2008 in South Australia this wine tastes more like a Barossa or McLaren Vale Shiraz than a Coonawarra Shiraz. Dry herbal notes and verging on full bodied. Being a Penfolds Bin No. red it will easily pass 20 years in the cellar. Hasn’t got the usual spice and pepper of a Bin 128 in this warmer year. — 5 days ago

Penfolds reds like this age at glacial pace even from a not so great vintage like 2007. Not much change after 5 years. Red and black fruits- choc/mocha - good concentration - tannins starting to soften after 18 years. Could keep cellaring up to 2030 and beyond. — 2 months ago

Deep dark brooding wine. Packs some heat but remains balanced and long. Dark fruit, high alcohol but it works in the structure. I loved this wine and will seek out more as this was a one off bottle. — 3 months ago

This is definitely one of Zynsy-wynsy and my favorite wines so far. Has a subtle sweetness that adds to what we like most about other SBs like Wairau and Southern Right. Oldest in the Penfolds portfolio, Wine includes fruit from Barossa, McLaren Vale, Padthaway, Clare and Wrattonbully vineyards, aged 12 months in American oak, about 7% new. Deep Ruby color with aromas of dark berry fruits and sweet spice. On the palate ripe blackberry, plum and cherry flavors with cacao, espresso and vanilla oak. Vivid acidity, rich ripe fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit and a bit of spice, very nice! Good value with aging potential. — 2 months ago
