Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1985

Enjoyed alongside some other Napa legends from the 80’s and 90’s. The 1985 is lovely and came more than willing, with a mix of tart, ripe and desiccated red fruits, Montmorency cherries, red currants, graphite, toasted coconut, leather and nuts. There was a slightly sherried character early on the nose but the structure seemed to defy age. No need to cellar further as this is delicious now and well stored examples should continue to be through 2030+. — 6 days ago

Enderle & Moll

Liaison Pinot Noir

Second from right. Beats red burgundies with ease…The 2022’s red and whites might be the best vintage they ever made. The whites are creative and unique - but the reds just floored me. Like a 1er Cru Gevrey Chambertin but better. Much better. Deep dark cherry galore, but also spice and it improved with oxidation over 48 hours, hints of lime, bark, just a touch of pine needles…fantastically framed at this point by high amounts at tannins. Even this mid level wine blowed my socks off. With a sense of place which the chiseled and fine tuned wines in Burgundy have lost. — 6 months ago

Château Suduiraut

'S' de Suduiraut Bordeaux Contrôlée 2019

White stonefruits, citrus and an underlying green note, some oak as well, medium-bodied and really shows the dominant Semillon with mineral and oily, viscous notes as well, this is a really fine dry Sauternes!! — 9 months ago

Love these wines! Always so incredible to have such a balance of racy energy with a simultaneous oxidative complexity. — 10 months ago

"S" Slatnik Venezia Giulia Chardonnay Tocai Friulano 2021

At first it reminded me of a Normandy craft cider. Then I poured some in my glass and the colour struck me. It's orangey and clearly turbid. Not your casual chardonnay Sunday evening pour. The nose is verrrryyy complex, pear, apple, honey, elderflower, white pepper, some slight apricot touch and some yeasty notes too (?). The palate is great too, good acid drive, pear and apple, honey, good width, soft mouthfeel that turns into a tannic wall in the rear that caresses the tongue before powering a multi-layered finish with honey, apricot, apple, pear, a savoury, salty touch. Wow this is wild. It's absolutely not the same wine nor the same tastes and varietals but this reminds to some extent of Joly's wines from la Coulée de Serrant. Extremist in the approach somehow. These guys will die on that hill with their ideas. — 4 months ago

The Joly reference is a good one.

@Jay Kline it struck me like an evidence, eventhough the wines have nothing in common 🤷🏻‍♂️

En D-Magnum. My ‘Private Label’ cabs are still showing well. 😎. 1992 Mag and ‘99 750 are a step behind, but still very good. — 10 months ago

'S' Blanc de Blancs Le Mesnil Brut Chardonnay 2004

Pale straw lemon color with frothy mousse and lively bead of bubbles, produced only in exceptional vintages, grapes from grand cru vineyards in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. A complex nose of fresh fruit with yeast, nutty notes and floral scents. On the palate flavors of peach, berry and citrus flavors, floral with biscuit tones. Great balance with acidity, delicate textures, long finish ending creamy with toasty smoky oak and chalky mineral character. Very Nice! Tasting Sample! — 2 months ago

Reserve Tapestry Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1998

1998 | Red Blend

Quite vegetal and austere after a few hours of decant, couldn't drink it. Shuffled aside, after almost two weeks it finally shed its mortal coil and reminded us of the beauty of Tapestry. Our finale of the BV 1998's in the cellar.

96 was a very good vintage for this bottling. Took 15 plus years but excellent once it got there. 97 better, but still needs time to get to the beauty of the 96 was 5 years back or so and is now.
