Exprimere Wines

Mia Peake Ranch Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2021

Reddish in color with light intensity.

Fruity nose of cherries, raspberries, spices, light oak and chocolate notes.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with red bing cherries, currants, raspberries, sweet strawberries, spices, red candy, light wood, chocolates, sweet tobacco, light herbs and black pepper.

Nice length on the finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious Pinot Noir from Santa Rita Hills in California. Easy drinking and engaging. Elegant and fruit forward.

Showing nice complexity with a soft mouthfeel, and feels like a California Pinot with a touch of Burgundy.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after an hour of airtime.

Will continue to age nicely in the next 7 years.

Pinot Noir grapes were aged for 9 months in French oak barrels. A small production of only 8 barrels.

14.1% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$100.

Domaine MIA

Les Plantenays Rully Chardonnay 2019

2022/5/10 with mushroom Demi-glacé omelette, etc. A well-balanced melange of citrus and pit fruit, stone, honey, and woody, lightly toasted spice. A touch of sweet and sour - flesh and acid backbone. This price for a Chalonnaise villages would have been a non-starter 10 or even 5 years ago, but here we are. Obviously it doesn’t have the depth or intensity, but very satisfying. — 4 years ago

Bressler

St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Last vintage from Bressler, grapes going to Anomaly vineyards now. Was on the customer list at the start for a few years and still have 01 and 02 (popped an 02 a year ago and it was great) in the cellar. Grabbed some 2014s at a great price. For Napa, Bressler was always worth seeking...premium valley floor fruit, Mia Klein winemaker, and under $100 release price.

1 hour decant (little sediment). A splended inky dark magenta color. On the nose: floral, sandlewood, black cherry and plum, cedar, vanilla marshmallows. Taste: Elegant and smooth, soft tannins with blackberry, blueberry, chocolate, with a spicy cedar medium plus finish....ready to go another 15 years.

Sad to see this producer end its run. Haven’t had any older vintages, but I’ve enjoyed 2009-2013 the last few years. Love Mia Klein’s craft too.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

2019 vintage. Medium body. Plenty of frontal palate richness. Middle currently MIA. Finish is loamy and plush with some espresso bean. Wanted a bit more dark plum structure but wasn’t forthcoming. Maybe in a few. 01.29.25. — 2 years ago

Cristal Brut Champagne 2008

Stellar. Toasted hazelnuts, lemon curd, methyl anthranilate. Super fine bubbles that take you to the still zesty ripe Meyer Lemon finish. I recall when we had a bottle of this upon release I preferred the freshness then. This has been stored in our eurocave since we bought it from the reps at a party @sigh in Sonoma (Highly recommended btw - Thanks Jayme!) Here’s to 20 more years Mia ❤️ — 4 years ago

Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Champagne Chardonnay

This is nice! Best Blanc de Blanc Mia has had. Just the right balance of light toast and pure fruit with a cleansing finish. Not fat, slight creaminess. Great for sipping on its own. Disgorged 7/2018. 60% DE 2013. Dosage 7gr/liter. TBL — 7 years ago

Azienda Agricola Brovia

Barolo Nebbiolo 2013

Delectable Wine
9.3

Brovia's 2013 Barolo is gorgeous. Deep, ample and beautifully layered in the glass, it possesses terrific expansiveness in every dimension. An exotic bouquet laced with hints of orange peel, cinnamon, pomegranate, kirsch and mint melds into a core of rich red stone fruit. This one of the best straight Barolos readers will come across. It is built on a core of fruit from the Brea Cru in Serralunga (the part outside the Ca' Mia parcel), with the addition of about 30% juice left over after the casks for the single-vineyard Barolos have been filled. The 2013 is one of the very finest values in high-end wine. Don't miss it. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2018) — 8 years ago

Jean François Ganevat

Les Chalasses Marnes Bleues Côtes du Jura Savagnin 2013

En-magnum. Elevated to another level with the cheese board and notably the only white that could really keep up with the Rieslings during the night. The flavours of salted almonds, beeswax, hay, and light smokiness just went so well with the Comté. Mama mia! The wine was complex, very straight, yet dense and had a lovely textural richness. Lots of citrus and minerals, as well as spicy nuances to complete the notes. Even more mineral on day two.

NB: SC firmly believes this and the Les Vignes de Mon Père are Ganevat's best cuvees and perhaps the two greatest sources of Savagnin anywhere.

Notes from Mia Klein:
The 2005 vintage gave ample rain in the winter, charging up the soil water profile for a very nice growing season. Temperatures were moderate and consistent from early spring through October. Both the mature, established Cabernet Sauvignon vines and the now five year old Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petite Verdot vines produced some wonderful juice.

Mirror

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

He really nice interpretation of this vineyard's fruit. Didn't really know much about this but saw that it was from one of my favorite vineyards. The nose was more of a roasted fig, blackberry, blueberry. Entry was definitely dark. A little more brambly, with hints of dark chocolate and baking spices to the middle. started to show some of the red clay towards the finish. The tannins on this wine or not nearly as stiff as I had imagined. Definitely toasted, good fruit backbone, and definitely feel that this wine will continue to evolve over the next five to seven years. Overall, still prefer Mia Klein's interpretation (IMO of course). — 7 years ago
