See my previous notes from last year. By all accounts, this bottle is an analog of the previous bottles I have enjoyed of the 2021 “Vie Erte”. This time, I was able to track the wine over three days and it never lost power. The fruit and structure are in harmonious balance. I am so excited to try this vintage when it begins to show some secondary characteristics…but I’m fully expecting to see exercise some serious patience. Jan 2026: PnP, picks up air and ready in 10 min in the glass. Black fruit, coffee, fine tannins, a brunello on the elegant side. Nice, but oak seems a bit too much so that somewhat dominates over classic brunello palate — 5 years ago

This is a dark wine. It looks dark, smells dark and tastes dark. The nose brings blackberry, plum, coffee and black tea. There is very little oak in the aroma package, if any. The palate shows dark fruit as well, with a clean and healthy tannic structure. The finish is not terribly long, but it is juicy and flavorful. — 3 years ago

Straw gold color. Blend of Malvasia (45%), Rhein Riesling (40%) and Friulano (15%). Intensely floral on the nose with a hints of apricot, honey and a touch of petrol. Green apple, pear and minerals fill the pallet. Spicy and citrusy finish. Clean and rich. Intense acidity. Outstanding food wine. — 4 years ago

Actually a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (77%), Merlot (12%), Malbec (5%), Cabernet Franc (4%) Petite Verdot (2%). Dark ruby color with some purple highlights. Aroma of ripe black fruit, violets, cedar and burnt caramel. Flavors of black berry/currant/plum fruit, black tea, savory herbs and spices. Presented double-blind at Tasting Group. The wine pours a straw color; medium viscosity with no signs of particles or gas. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tropical fruit, lemon citrus, white and yellow flowers, and slivered almond. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and creamy, leesy. Ooof…another neutral white.

Initial conclusions: this could be Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Gris from France or the United States. There is no oak (possibly neutral oak but I think it’s lees contact). So I’m going with my gut and calling this Chardonnay, France, Burgundy, Chablis, 2022. Ha! Patrick Piuze is a Chablis producer but this wine uses grapes outside of the zone, hence the Bourgogne Blanc designation. Tricky wine but I’ll take it. Drink now through 2033. — 6 months ago
