Just concluded the annual Fall seclusion at our cabin in the Rangeley lakes region of Maine, mobile service up there is mostly non-existent, after several days I am posting again. Notes are somewhat brief, as my focus is relaxing and watching the Common Loons swimming and diving in the cove in front of our camp.
Nose has frozen strawberries (thawing), juiced raspberries and orange zest.
Palate has tangerine peel, mashed strawberries, and waxy yellow apple peel. In a fine spot, don't hold these any longer. — a day ago
I was going to get the 2009 Domaine Leroy Bourgogne but, that turned out to pretty much vinegar. Not our bottle. You have to order wine from the Nepenthe menu with restaurants suffering through lost Covid-19 business. We brought a 2010 Williams Selyem. That will have to wait for another day.
Bottle is delicious just starting to show some brickish on the edge of the glass. Not sure why I don’t see more of this producer on Delectable. They really do make some outstanding Pinot Noirs.
The nose reveals ripe & somewhat candied; black cherries, cranberries, pomegranate, strawberries, cherries, blueberries, blackberries, black raspberries with shades of rhubarb. Savory meats, light smoke, fresh tobacco notes, steeped fruit tea, limestone minerals, dry crush rocks, dark spice, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, clove, vanilla, mostly dry, dark, earth, red licorice/cola, cherry kirsch liqueur notes with fresh & withering; dark, red, blue, purple florals set in a field of violet & lavender.
The palate is, juicy, round, ripe and lush with nice viscosity. Ripe & somewhat candied; black cherries, cranberries, pomegranate, strawberries, cherries, blueberries, blackberries, black raspberries with shades of rhubarb. Savory meats, light smoke, fresh tobacco notes, steeped fruit tea, limestone minerals, dry crush rocks, dark spice with some pronounced heat, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, clove, vanilla, sage, mostly dry, dark, earth, dry top soil, underbrush, red licorice/cola, cherry kirsch liqueur notes with fresh & withering; dark, red, blue, purple florals set in a field of violet & lavender. The acidity is really nice...flowing like a cool gentle stream. The long finish is; round, sexy, well balanced fruit & earth, elegant, well polished and persist nicely ending with pronounced mid dark spice on the long set. — 24 days ago
What a difference a year makes, the ‘11 I tried was mediocre, the ‘12 I tasted was much better. Dark Ruby with aromas of dark fruit, herb and floral notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry and cherry with hints of eucalyptus, leather and vanilla. Fine firm tannins, a bit chewy, medium+ finish ending with rich fruit and mineral notes. — 2 days ago
Sourced mostly from estate grown vineyards, this bright ruby wine has aromas of red fruits and sweet spices. On the palate flavors of cherry, plum and raspberry with underlying crispness, adding in some citrus and vanilla, rich in the mouth. Fine tannins, long finish, well balanced complex ending. Very Nice! — 15 days ago
Seems to me a little more approachable than other vintages I remember in the last few years. Nice robust sweet mountain fruit with blackberry, blueberry, dark chocolate, a hint of vanilla, pencil shavings, and sweet oak hits hard on the front both in the nose and on the palate. This bottle had about a 30 to 45 minute decant, and I think it was really all that it needed. It did develop a bit through the next hour, but the bottle really didn't last much longer than that! Toasted oak tannin finish with ripe and youthful blackberry, chocolate, blueberry notes. Incredible structure, and will last a good solid 15 years. — 16 hours ago
I normally like the West Ridge and its more subtle notes over the East Ridge, but this bottle of East Ridge was just fantastic. It was so very deep and yet still energetic and full of soaring, bright clean red fruits, combined with a lovely long finish. My wife and I basically raced each other to the bottom of this bottle. — 15 days ago
