Bought at the winery after tasting in 1999, my first pilgrimage to Coonawarra. Opened very stinky but blew off with air over 30 mins to beautiful fragrant nose and that sweet soft tannin of an aged Coonawarra Cabernet. Drank gloriously over the next two hours. Still full of life at 29 years old. — 7 months ago
A lovely full wine. Chocolate rounded flavours. Just the tiniest hint of powder. Blueberry sort of touches. Goes really well with Chocolate! — 5 years ago
As per previous notes. Dense crimson in colour. Cedar, blackberry and geranium. To borrow HH’s phrase “effortless style”. Demonstrates why Coonawarra’s red dirt is marvellous for Cabernet. 96% Cabernet 4% Petit Verdot. The Tally is the top Cuvée from Balnaves. Rich, medium to full bodied. — 6 years ago
Crimson with a Tawny rim showing its age. Mellow and resolved - round and soft at 17 years of age. Black Olive tapenade and chocolatey notes. Leading Australian Wine Scribe, James Halliday, describes Wynns Black Label Cabernet as “the most important Cabernet in Australia with a magnificent history “. The first vintage was 1954 and in a few months time when the 2018 is released it will be the 63rd. Amazing QPR - the current 2017 can be purchased for $31.90 AUD. The wine is matured in new (never more than 20%) and old French and American oak for between 12 and 18 months depending on vintage. — 6 years ago
Clean, clear and bracingly mineral with lovely lemon citrus, Apple, smoky Flint and a hint of spicy lemongrass. Time in bottle has taken the razor edge off the acidity so the wine today is beautifully balanced — 7 years ago
Pale lemon color with aromas of citrus, stone fruits and herb spice notes, from south facing vineyard, 66% aged in the barrel. On the palate flavors of peach, Asian pear and lemon citrus with notes of white flowers and herb spice. Medium+ crisp finish, vivid acidity ending with citrus and bright mineral character. — 2 months ago
Very nice, fresh, notes of green apple — 8 months ago
Bougros for me the weakest of the grand crus. Still a tasty lemoney, chalky delight. — 3 years ago
Mineral, oysters and pear on the nose. This smells like a coastal vacation to me. Medium bodied with a touch of effervescence- on the pallet, a honeyed, refined funkiness full of tart acidity and salty flavors- dry finish with the unmistakeable taste of olives. Absolutely fantastic. Drink if you love martinis

Fairly rich and modern but still shows its Chablis terroir. Very les clos in style. Massive frame of rich stone fruit followed by textbook oyster shell. Subtle hints of verbena and fresh mandarin orange. This may have very well been my favorite Chablis of the evening. Everyone called it grand cru Chablis blond — 7 years ago
About the fifth bottle of this I have opened and it was amazing due to a brilliant cork. So rich and luscious with glorious long sweet Coonawarra tannin. — 4 months ago
Nose is a little reticent at first, giving shy whiffs of Granny Smith apples and crushed rock. Just the barest hint of Chablis “brothiness” as I like to call it. As it airs and warms, it’s a bit more forthcoming. In the mouth it’s on the lighter side, but certainly showing Chablis minerally character. Acids medium low. A nice aperitif Chablis but color me a bit disappointed, for now, given the producer. Will try to check back in after a few hours.
UPDATE: After several hours, showing noticeably more fruit and depth. — 5 months ago
Delicious. Tasty. With hints of enjoyment. — 6 years ago
A mineral nose with hints of citrus. A buttery mouthfeel with crushed granite, peach stone, melon, and lemon. Low alcohol and moderate plus to high acid, although the acid is a bit muted for a Chablis. Quite smooth from start to finish. — 6 years ago
One of my favourites so far. — 6 years ago
Good experience - the tannins melted away, taste of tobacco, leather. Nose forest floor and mushrooms — 8 years ago
Bob McDonald

Oodles of Coonawarra mint on the nose. The medium bodied palate shows blackberry, dark chocolate, and that same mint. If you ever wanted to know what an excellent Coonawarra Cabernet was like buy a bottle of this - it is textbook. Great winemaking from Sue Bell. Barb and I did vintage there in 2021. — 19 days ago
