Cerrete Sagrantino di Montefalco 2007

It’s big and burly needless to say but the tannins have been sanded down to a fairly finely grained structure with some bottle time. Fruit profile is big, baked and dried, with dried herbs and warm dusty earth. Surprising amount of acid. Needs a very robust food pairing but damned impressive — 6 days ago

Bric dël Fiasc Barolo Nebbiolo 1996

Decanted for 4 hours and consumed over the next 3. Dark tawny, almost opaque. Bright Barolo nose. Notes of ripe cherry, red roses, some anise, some tea, a hint of black tar and some wood. Dry and acidic in the mouth. The nose is the beauty of this wine. For the future, it’s questionable if the fruit will last long enough to wait for the acidity to soften enough. — a month ago

Notturno dei Calanchi Pinot Nero

Violets and plumbs hit straight away with a stony dry after taste. Excellent French style Pinot from Umbrian terroir, this wine is exceptional at an excellent price. Had the 2016 vintage and just loved it with quale roasted aubergines and selection of wild mushrooms. — 15 days ago

Monastero Suore Cistercensi

Benedic Red Blend 2019

Just like the 2018 vintage, this is basically a blend of mostly Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo with a small amount of Merlot added. The wine pours a translucent garnet. On the nose, the lightest touch of funk enhances the ample dark red cherry fruit. Lilies and chrysanthemums and dry dusty earth as well. On the palate, red cherry fruit is dominant and seems to overpower just about everything else right now. Medium - tannin with medium + acid. It provides an effortless pairing with food. A rather simple but charming little wine in the most wonderful ways. Giampiero Bea consults. — 22 days ago
