Les Rouillères Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil Cabernet Franc 2018

The red wines I tasted when I was at the south of the Loire were very different (special) compared with "typical" French wines. The complexity is not defined by the body, but by its finesse in taste. You taste the fruit, but their sweetness is in balance with the acidity with makes them taste elegant. At least when its a well-made Bourgueil. I also taste a lot of bad ones over there. This one, recommended by my importer, is just excellent. 16€ is not cheap, but for this one, worth its money. — 2 days ago

Nicolas Feuillatte

Réserve Exclusive Brut Champagne Blend

Traditional Champagne blend of Chardonnay (40%), Meunier (40%) and Pinot Noir (20%). Medium gold color. Aromas of pear and apricot. Palate is more dried fruit (green apple and quince) focused with hints of toasted nuts, honey and baking spices. Nice citrusy finish and creamy texture. Rich and elegant. Excellent starter. — 18 days ago

Bodega Catena Zapata

Nicolas Catena Zapata Malbec 2020

Delectable Wine
9.6

The 2020 Nicolás Catena Zapata is a blend composed of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Malbec and 20% Cabernet Franc sourced from Paraje Altamira in the Uco Valley. It was carefully aged for up to 16 months in French oak barrels. Garnet in hue. The nose reveals captivating cassis, rose, blackberry, plum and fig aromas harmoniously combined with dried flowers. The palate presents a dry and ample profile, with fine-grained tannins and a juicy flow that leads to a vibrant mouthfeel, brimming with energy. This meticulously crafted red achieves precise balance in a warm vintage. (Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous, September 2023)

Love this! Cherries in a forest. Redwoods and some game, earth but such a great lightness. Funky cab franc goodness in the best way. — a month ago

Les Vieux Clos Savennières Chenin Blanc 2018

Interesting and complicated. A varietal that we rarely approach. Tropical notes on the nose and palate. It displays effervescence on the mid palate, which I find distracting. But the pineapple notes draw you in. A very sweet finale left us thinking this was somewhat of a hybrid between Sauvignon Blanc and champagne. — 20 days ago

Joly’s wines are spectacular! Make sure you try Clos de la Bergerie and the top wine, Clos de la Coulée de Serrant, as well. The latter uses botrytized grapes and can take significant aging. I think it beats Burgundy for the “best white” title.

Hey Byron, thanks for the insights. 24hrs on, it's calmed down (effervescence) a bit so I'll lift the score an extra point :0)

Billecart-Salmon

Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart Brut Champagne Blend 2002

2002 vintage. Flighty and ethereal 15 minutes after opening. Leaning towards the leaner side. Delicious and a perfect food wine for Champagne-based matchups. Light-medium body. 8.19.23. — a month ago

Clos de la Coulée de Serrant Savennières Chenin Blanc 2019

Delightful! Had the 2019 in July 2023 the funk noted earlier is fading quickly. Golden, pears and apricots, lanolin and lots of minerality. Great complexity. — 2 months ago
