Michel Rebourgeon

Pommard Rugiens 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2018

Lyle Fass
9.4

Superb nose of deep stoniness that only Rugiens can bring. Floral, woodsy and spicey as well. Black cherry pastille. Complex. Unfurling. Black cherry. End of season cherries. Gorgeous purity of fruit on the palate and wonderful finesse and freshness. Very elegant. Chewy and dense but really light on its feet. Awesome fruit stamp on the palate. Sticks with you. Terrific concentration and power and sweet, ripe and stoney tannins. Superb depth. Sappy and so serious. Elite Rugiens. 25 year wine here. Terrific finish and picks up complexity as it airs. Needs a few hours, days, years, decades to unwind. Will be a great trip. — 17 days ago

Domaine Michel Magnien

Vieilles Vignes Vosne-Romanée Pinot Noir 2016

This comes from two vineyards with vines planted in 1902 and 1920. The soils are calcareous marl and clay. The wine is a pure expression of its terroir thanks to its élevage in a combination of used oak and clay jars. The wine shows ripe and fresh red-fruit aromas on the nose with Asian spice and rose petals. Medium weight and moderate tannins follow on the palate with a concentration of flavor that is typical of old vines and wholecluster fermentation. They say Michael Magnien follows the rhythm of moons synodic revolution at each stage. — 14 days ago

Outstanding. Awesome finish. Best on day 1. Paid too much at WF but great value under $20. — a day ago

Domaine Michel Niellon

Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 1990

Tasted blind, from two combined bottles. Yellow gold. Dirty lemon nose. Notes of lemon creme, wet stones, some dirt, some marzipan and vanilla, and a little honeysuckle. Rich in the mouth. Good structure with softened acidity. The unique nose of Niellon is easy to identify... Guessed 86 Batard. Great juice. — 24 days ago

Domaine Michel Lafarge

Beaune-Grèves 1er Cru Pinot Noir

Steely, mineral, tannic (black tea). Paired well with beef. Tannins were less prominent with food and towards evening. Recommend a decant. — 24 days ago

Les Tuilières Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Pale lemon with pleasant aromas of stone fruits, citrus, herb and honey notes. On the palate flavors of ripe peach and pear with lemon citrus, honeysuckle and nutty notes. Medium+ finish, good balance ending with juicy tangy mineral character. Nice! — 10 days ago

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2001

Light garnet-ruby. Rusty, musty nose. Olive brine, dried blueberry. Long, juicy, bloody palate, with reverberating acidity and prickly tannins. Hints of roasted nuts and cocoa. So alive on the palate. A real treat. — 25 days ago

@romo Interesting. How so?

Look at your profile. This is an outlier. I feel same about Cote Rotie as a “real treat”.

@romo Fair enough. I def think of Cote Rotie as a special occasion wine but not an outlier.
