vintage 2019 | Let’s call a subject that I do not see here: I think you must be in good shape to appreciate top-tier wines. Yesterday we went to a concert in Amsterdam; it was a four hour travel with bus, tram and train. We enjoyed it. I had put a 24 y old Tuscan riserva upright to pair with spaghetti funghi. By the time we came home we were so tired, I think it would be an abusive to drink the Tuscan. We could not give it the attention it deserves. Therefore I pulled the cork from this Cot/Malbec from Touraine. Interesting wine made without sulphite and no filtering. It does not ask much attention but gives a lot. A sultry smell with raspberries and a comforting taste. Just what we needed. — 2 days ago

Medium Ruby with aromas of rich red/black fruits and spice, 16 months in 25% new French oak. On the palate raspberry, cherry & black currant flavors with notes of oak. Soft dusty tannins, well balanced ending with fruit, spice and cedar. Very nice! I wouldn’t age long, great now! — 4 years ago

Deep Purple (with a little smoke on the water), 100% Grenache with aromas of dark fruit and complex exotic spice. Plum, berry & current flavors with nutty tobacco develops into sweet licorice. Tannins a bit grippy but will soften, lingering, balance ending with fruit and spice. Nice!

There’s a unique spice profile that marks Marius Shiraz. I do love it. Long long finish, tannin has a nice savoury grip balanced with dark black and red fruits. Florals in both flavour and smell, so much going on. A big step up from the 2014 Simpatico. Roger Pike has called it a day (https://rogerpike.com.au/news/), and at this point without any clear succession or sale 2019 will be his last vintage :( — 8 years ago
