As usual this is a preposterous wine and a preposterous value and the best of its kind. The fruit has a lipstick like intensity that boggles the mind. Black cherry, dark red cherries, dusty earth, pulverized rocks and so much more. There is a tiny berry fruit intensity that is a trademark of this wine. Smells like elite village burg. Palate is Uber concentrated with dazzling purity and freshness for days. Black cherry, dark red cherries and so much sapidity. Elegant, complex and so deep. Amazing black raspberry as well. This just keeps pushing on the finish. As this airs the limestone intensity just keeps getting more and more defined on the nose. Superb cut and delineation, with such unreal concentration. Never heavy always elegant and a finish you will not believe for this level. It’s superb in its compactness. Some wood shavings character now on the nose after air. From high school woodshop. Gorgeous fruit. This is just dazzling. A skoche behind the 19 but still the best of its class. Let’s see what air does. — 13 days ago

Madiran Tannat Blend 2013

Tannat (80%)/Cabernet Franc (20%) blend. Deep purple color. Dark black fruit aromas and flavors. Hints of smoke and oak. Just a bit of a green note but it incorporates beautifully. Nicely structured, as the Tannat was not over extracted. Tannins are present but not overly grippy. Alcohol is also reasonable at 13.5%. This wine has benefited from aging. Here we go. The most insane florals ever. Wow. Rose petals beyond. So so fresh. Lipstick like mid season cherry intensity. So focused and on point. A bit shy but what is there is precise and so focused. Wow. The nose keeps opening and opening. Such a great tiny berry fruit intensity. Wow that is genius. Amazing sweetness and the most velvety, silky and ripe tannins. Sweet but not too sweet and what spread across the palate. Gets to every nook and cranny. Unreal depth and purity. One of the most expansive finishes ever. Wow. Tiny berry fruit explosiveness and just the most precise and vivid sweetness. Wow this is supple with the best, most ripe and elegant tannins I’ve ever had in a Brisset wine. What a finish. The acid is incredible.

As this airs it gets so mineral and energetic. Best red of 2020. Genius. What a finish. What tannins. Will be a 10.0 in 6 years or so.
