This is still thriving: elegantly styled Left Bank offering with bright beam of pure cherry & currant, cassis, along w/endearing secondary layers of earth, leather, herbaceousness, hint of pepper, tomato leaf and others... great complexity w/out being all over the place. Mid weight, mild tannins and great freshness. Impressive! — 4 months ago

Kistler esque. Lots of oak with notes of ripe citrus and verbena but also great minterality and verve. It’s like old world meets new world. Very well done but maybe a bit heavy handed honestly. Not sure if I love it or hate it quite yet — 6 months ago

@Ira Schwartz 2016. It’s super fleshy but also very mineral. It honestly reminds me of blind tasting rombauer. It has some banana which I hate but some green apple malic feel at the same time which I generally love. Maybe a generic yeast or something that turns me off but I love the structure

I want to love it more than I do but rated it highly cause it’s super well made

Man O' War Vineyards

Dreadnought Waiheke Island Syrah 2016

Our final long lunch in Cairns at the Salt House on the waterfront. No formal notes but i have always loved this Shiraz from Waiheke Island in the middle of Auckland Harbour NZ. Plummy spicy and savoury with supple tannins. Overtones of Northern Rhone and easy to drink. — 22 days ago

Yes, you would think perhaps the rainfall might be a bit high for quality viticulture but not so.

Maté's Vineyard Chardonnay 2012

Really nothing much more to add from my (and other Delectable users) previous notes about this incredible Chardonnay. Notes of pear, pineapple and cashew. Creamy on the palate. Simply put - a top shelf new world Chardonnay - now drinking at its peak. — 5 months ago

Bought some 2018's recently upon reading your reviews. Better wait a while before opening I suppose

@Jan A I think so Jan. If you want to experience the style see if you can locate some of their 2019 or 2020 Village Chardonnay. I have a few bottles of the 2019 left where I paid $19AUD. Great Value. I believe the 2020 has just been released.

Estate Chardonnay 2018

Talk about cost performance! If you ever find this on sale and like white burgs, load up. Some oak on it but plenty of tension, acidity that keep it all in check. Always a crowd pleaser and sure to surprise those that have yet to discover the potential of NZ wines. — 7 months ago

Complex, exciting and balanced. A touch of oiliness with bright peach shining through, melon and a hint of lemon . Superb, delicious. — 2 months ago

Wow - this has been in suspended animation for the past 5 years - eerily similar to previous note. This is an estate owned by an American woman, on a small island near Auckland NZ with a Swiss winemaker. — 5 months ago
