Argiolas

Turriga Isola dei Nuraghi Red Blend 2016

Okay folks!!!! Here it is. Finally a wine that makes me go WOW!! 2016 Argiolas Turriga isola dei nuraghi blend. Italy has proven to me that they have skills! Of course, I’ve always known this. I’ve never found a great Italian wine that I have loved until now. This wine has something so different about it from the beginning. The bouquet I am having trouble defining, but I think it’s Passionfruit and licorice. The palate is immediately exploded with dark cherry, elderberry, and leather.. The earth tones are fantastic. Absolutely no bitter taste at all. Buttery on the texture. Mild spice. Graphite. Fantastic buttery and velvety finish. Very dry. This wine is almost 4 dimensional. OMG, give me more!!!!!! — 6 days ago

Fine description

Costantino

De Aetna Etna Rosato 2018

Pale pink orange in bottle but more orange in glass; medium intensity aromas of strawberry, tangerine, white grapefruit, subtle vanilla; dry, medium plus acid, medium alcohol, medium body, medium plus intensity flavors with more white grapefruit and saline notes in the palate; bottle had been open awhile so not sure how representative my notes are — 6 days ago

Borgo Savaian

Aransat L.A 19 Orange Pinot Grigio Sauvignon 2020

So fragrant! Opened up with a soft, peach scent and moved into orange blossom and honey. Creamsicle nose! But upon tasting I get butterscotch and salty sea air and an almost manzanilla sherry- level dryness.
Savory, complex, and thirst-quenching all at the same time. It’s just what I needed on a late summer evening on the balcony with a warm, breezy sunset.

Paolo Bea

Santa Chiara Umbria Bianco Malvasia Blend 2011

2011. Sherry and dried fruit aromas, minimal funk, a little bit of acid and tannin on the finish. Pulled it from the cellar to pair with pumpkin-sage ravioli and rosemary and balsamic marinated pork loin. My rating definitely reflects how well this super drinkable orange wine complemented our dinner! — 3 days ago

Tenuta Farneta

Bongoverno Toscana Sangiovese 1990

Brought to Tasting Group. Presented double-blind. Pours a deep ruby color with some sediment in the glass. A mixed fruit set of mostly red and some dark fruits, dried cherries, leather, earth, dried leaf tobacco, and some dried herbs. Medium tannin with medium+ acid. Long finish. One person was close on place, calling Chianti Classico but nobody came close on vintage. To be fair, this certainly didn’t come across as a 30+ year old wine. If anyone has more of this laying around in a good cellar, you will be rewarded. — 10 days ago

Quartara Giffoni Valle Piana Colli di Salerno Fiano 2017

Damn. Amazing.

Nose is concentrated. You can feel the intensity of skin contact but it’s not irritating. Green apple. Mineral.

Palate is gorgeous green apple. Mineral. Lemon. Amazing. Gorgeous aromatics.

Bought from fass selections.

Azienda Agricola Valentini

Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 2009

Finesse, delicacy, complexity and focus
Quince, cedar and thyme tea
White pepper, almond spread and white choc
A field of flowers(mainly yellow)
Lemon curds, dill, breadcrumbs and more and more
Seaweed and strongly marine
Whispered rather than shouted class
Every swirl is a discovery, a subtle win of aromas
Toffees and cappuccino coming out of the glass with the rising temperature
It goes without saying the fun
So long aftertaste
12% in alcohol
This is the gotha of the Italian white wines
Still decades ahead i am sure
It could easily rank a Grand Cru status
Grab it if you can..and then age it

Vinding Montecarrubo

Il Piccolo Terre Siciliane Syrah 2018

Wow. Just wow. Silly good. Mineral and floral blast from the get go. Black currant, olive, smoke, tea, woodsy red and black fruit profile. Violets and lilacs and Mediterranean herbs unfurl in the glass over hours, along with complex fruit and spices. So crystalline, elegant, seductive. Light, but minerals are through the roof. And the clarity! This producer works magic with French varieties in Sicily and this feels unexpectedly about terroir.

Tasted alongside a great bottle of Foillard Morgon, which this demolished. Amazing find from

Thanks. I had so many naysayers when I introduced this estate as they all wanted me to sell Sicilian grapes. But Peter knows what he is doing and if you zoom out you see Sicily has the best terroir for Syrah outside the Northern Rhone. Glad you enjoyed.
