The 2019 Ghemme Dei Mazzoni is gracious and delicate, especially within the context of the appellation. Sweet pipe tobacco, cedar, mint, dried flowers and orange peel build effortlessly. This silky, mid-weight Ghemme is vivid and super inviting. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, February 2024)

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. No formal notes. As others have stated in previous TN’s, this is simply too young. The fruit is gorgeous and the winemaking is very good however, I find it to be too primary for my liking. Even after a few days, it was unwilling to develop. It’s balanced with sufficient structure to age well…and I suspect quite gracefully. I swooped up a couple of bottles and I’ll plan to forget about my remaining bottle for at least a decade. Better after 2026 and probably best after 2031. — 10 months ago
The 2018 Ghemme Ai Livelli is a dense, potent wine. Black cherry, spice, leather, menthol, game and incense add to an impression of brooding intensity. This rustic, burly Ghemme offers tons of punch and character, but it is marked by slightly elevated alcohol, searing tannins and oxidative overtones. In spite of that, it’s still a very good wine, which just shows the potential here. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, February 2024)

Such an amazing wine. Nose is soaring with almost hallucinogenic levels of spice and tobacco. Such a wide spectrum. So good. Dried roses. Some cherry peeking through. Sweet spices coming through as well. Juicy and tannic but man oh man is this concentrated, fierce and burly but all in proper balance. What a finish. Huge tannins but air will mellow. I’ll be back.
Wow after a day open this is completely harmonious like an orb on the palate and has that super elegance that is rare in Ghemme. 9.5 to 9.6. — 9 months ago
Some of us, being Nebbiolo supplicants, love Ghemme for its paradoxical meaty, bloody, yet light qualities. This has it in spades, on the edge of cherry cough syrup but never quite there. The woods, especially on the nose. This wine would benefit from a large glass.
It’s a bit of a sneaky, under the radar winery, hopefully for a bit still.
Lots of cherries, loam, dirt, blood, stoniness. Delicious. A ‘17 feels just about right. — 6 months ago
Lovely Aussi expression of this grape. Lively flavors and smooth in it’s transitions particularly for a wine so young. Closer to a Ghemme than a Barola. Earthy, Raspberry, rose petal, dried fruit, hazelnut. Very approachable young as it is not overly tannic or acidic. — a year ago

Old 2011. Needs 3/4 years again before been ready. Great wine — a month ago
