Fratelli Pisoni

Pisoni Vineyard Pinot Noir 2010

I brought this wine to dinner almost as a joke, since I stopped buying the Pisoni PN and trashed this Vintage years ago. To my surprise this turned out to be quite nice with a lot of dark berries and nice smooth finish. There was a lot of wines at the dinner so had a bit leftover. The second day it was okay but developed a bit of vinegar notes on the nose and taste but sill had blackberries and blueberries all around. Have one bottle of the 2011 which I will get to shortly.

Fratelli Alessandria

Barolo Nebbiolo 2013

Generally like this producer but this is my second bottle of the 2013 and both have been somewhat disappointing. Lighter in the glass, but even with a long decant the tannins are pretty dusty. Just doesn’t quite come together. — 3 months ago

Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir 2011

Subtle aromatics, tertiary color changes. Very nice for a 2011, although past it’s prime. Cork almost totally crumbled with the use of a corkscrew. — 4 months ago

Gramolere Barolo Nebbiolo 2017

Love Alessendria’s Barolos. Totally ready to drink but will keep for another 15 to 20 years. Cherries, Currants and licorice. Very soft tannins with typical Nebbiolo bite at the back palate. — a month ago

Monvigliero Barolo Nebbiolo 2013

Incredibly smooth and highly perfumed modern barolo. Drinks beautifully now, the Nebbiolo character comes true in the after burn. Will be interesting how this develops over the next 10 years. Incredibly fine tannins. — 2 months ago

I’m scoring as is today, but I really think this inches upward a bit over the next 5-7yrs.

This fell victim to curiosity (as well as a ‘21 Modus Operandi UV-Laguna Pinot). I’ve had a few of Lato’s entry and mid-level offerings, but this was my first Pisoni from them. Loved it.

Profile wise, this is similar to Dumol (not as big as Aubert, but not a lean style either). A very pretty down-the-middle style. While the aromatics here were lovely (honeysuckle, faint lemon cream, citrus and sweet baking spices), the texture of this wine was a standout. Sports much more depth than initially expected (yellow fruits, peach, apricot, pink cotton candy, limestone)…not quite a lees-y style, but close, while remaining elegant and light on its feet (good acidity). Oak is there but plays a supporting role. For being so young, this was a supremely balanced wine. I need to consider buying more.

@Shay A Paul Lato makes great wines. Many of them drink well on the early side. Great notes.
