Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2004

Allen Brothers Ribcap wine.

2004 not the best Bordeaux vintage but, certainly not bad. What was disappointing was how not ready this was to drink. Normally, a lesser than grand vintage 14 years in bottle Cos would have blossomed better. Good but, not what I was hoping for with my Ribcap. Still showing a fair amount of primary characteristics & a touch astringent.

It will be 5-8 years before I open another.

Truly one of the more grand Chateaus in Bordeaux.

Vecina Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1999

A recent gift from someone with whom I do business. Nice gift.

Started slow...still needed more time than a hour decant. But, really started to blossom on the second pour.

This was about as savory & herbaceous as a Napa Cabernet gets. After 19 years in bottle slightly over delivering on its RP rating.

A better Allen Brothers Ribcap wine than the 04 Cos D’ Estournel at this point & time.

Château Cos d'Estournel

Les Pagodes de Cos Saint-Estéphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Very masculin wine with granite, tar, leather, liquorice notes with amazingly soft silky tannin. It opens in 30 min to this explosion of aforementioned notes with black fruit in the background. Green bell pepper in the background give away the youth. It should develop very well over the years. Great length: good 35 seconds on the palate. Now I need to try the real deal COS from the same vintage. — 3 months ago

Château Phélan Ségur

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Another generous gift for my Cabernet tasting matching the theme of 2009. I have not tasted this producer before mainly trying Cos and Montrose from Saint Estephe previously. It was more full bodied and silky than expected reflecting the vintage. Black and red fruits. A little lost for words after the Lafite to be honest. Most enjoyable however. — a month ago
