Eclats Brut Nature Champagne Blend

Just concluded the annual Fall seclusion at our cabin in the Rangeley lakes region of Maine, mobile service up there is mostly non-existent, after several days I am posting again. Notes are somewhat brief, as my focus is relaxing and watching the Common Loons swimming and diving in the cove in front of our camp.

Solid producer, no new notes:
Nose has sliced brioche, cut red apple, bruised pear, warm caramel candy and wet limestone.
Palate has quince jam on faintly buttered brioche, bruised yellow apple, dried bread dough with a lingering touch of acidity/minerals with a long finish. Best as it warms and gains more exposure to air.

Went to a wedding many years ago in Rangeley. It’s beautiful. Another thing I remember is it takes longer to get there than you’d expect!

@Tom Casagrande Yes, not a quick hop from the Berkshires, but I'm good with that as one we arrive it's nothing but peace and quiet.

Our Champagne to start the night & to drink a cheers to the 9/11 First Responders & our very own CA First Responders fighting all our many fires. #neverforget911

The nose shows brightness. Golden apple, bruise red apple & pear, white citrus, just a touch of lime candy, understated ginger, nougat w/ nuts, soft brown sugar with molasses speckled in, bread dough, shades of yeast, baguette crust, crushed volcanics, saline, sea fossils, limestone powder, fresh & wither spring flowers and old white lilies.

Nice rich, full mouthfeel. Golden apple, bruise red apple & pear, white citrus, just a touch of lime candy, mango & guava that has sat out awhile, understated ginger, nougat w/ nuts, soft brown sugar with molasses speckled in, cream soda, hues of unsalted, melted butter, bread dough, shades of yeast, baguette crust, white spice with just a touch of heat, crushed volcanics, saline, sea fossils, limestone powder, fresh & wither spring flowers old white lilies mixed in. Nice oxygenation with lively, softly crisp acidity. The finish is good...nicely balanced, smartly polish & unchanged wire to wire.

L' Accomplie Premier Cru Extra Brut Vieilles Vignes Champagne Blend

Checks all the boxes for great champagne for me. Delicious, brisk, complex, textural and alluring on all fronts. Loads of character. Ripe asian pear, red apple skin, lime zest, sweet citrus peel, white strawberry and peach, loads of orchard blossom, starchy, and a salty/chalky thread throughout. There’s a vinous form to this but the racy acid drives it all across the palate, great tension/ripeness balance there. 80 PN 20 CH; 75% 2015 balance ‘14 & ‘13; 10/2018 disgorgement — 9 days ago

Sir Winston Churchill Brut Champagne Chardonnay Pinot Noir 1996

This is lovely. Starting to hit the secondary phase. Some toasted brioche, warm biscuit flavors. Fine mousse with delicate acidity. Broad but refined. This is really complete, sophisticated and delicious. — 5 days ago

Domaine Carneros (Taittinger)

Le Rêve Brut Sparkling Wine 2013

Always 100% Chardonnay, the 2013 ‘Le Reve’ is a tour de force from this storied Carneros house. The mousse here is highly refined. Salted biscuit aromatic tones grab your attention with Meyer lemon zest and shades of wild mushroom and toasted hazelnuts all take shape in the glass. The silly mousse is downright incredible. Bright kumquat zest and sourdough bread tones mingle with macadamia nut and suggestions of white truffles on this complex palate. This is salty and savory California sparkling wine at its best. Beautifully textured, with great length, this stunning new bottling will enjoy a very long life ahead of it. Drink 2020-2035- 95

Cuvée Elisabeth Salmon Brut Rosé Champagne 2007

🏅Rating 92/100 (4,2⭐)

I always struggle with rose champagnes. Somehow they don't convince me and almost never justify the price tag. But there are a few which I am satisfied with.

Cuvee Elisabeth is definitely in my top list. Its first vintage is 1988 and was created as a counterpart to another prestige cuvee of the house Nicolas François.

This cuvee is about the elegance and finesse rather than the power. Made of equal parts of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir it is blended with less than 10% of red wine from old vines in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ.

Chic rose color with copper hue. Reductive style with a cooler 2007 vintage showing through. Apricot jam, candied citrus, sugar powdered red berries. Delicate bitter cool and dry finish. Disg. in Feb 2019 after spending impressive 11 years on lees. The dosage of 6 g/l is enough to reach the perfect balance.

We overwinter in our house in MA. We can't get into the ME cabin in the winter, unless the logging roads we access our property somehow get plowed, too much snow generally.

Husk cherries, papaya, gooseberry, green apples, yeast and tart yellow fruits on the nose. Dynamic palate that’s fruity, mineral, savory and so broad but with perfectly blazing acid. Long and expressive. — 11 days ago
