Shafer Vineyards

Hillside Select Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Only so much cheap wine a person can take. The 13 is definitely not feminine in style.

I’ve been eye balling this for months now.
Down to my 2005 & 12 stock wise. This I could drink everyday, needs hours of decant per norm.
Grab a glass re cork then decant 4 hours on the 2nd day.

The 13 is a different beast compared to every other vintage I’ve had,

Beaulieu Vineyard

Clone 4 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

If you want Napa cab, I can’t imagine a better wine that fits the bill. I love Rutherford so this is perfect. Dust covered wild picked blackberries, cedar, some pine, a hint of dark chocolate on the nose. Palate is chocolate covered raspberries, more cedar, bit of green pepper, also white pepper, plums, dirt, and the tiny hint of candy orange. This opened up after an hour. Also improved tasting outside. Is this winery underrated because they make a lot of wine? Are the 500 dollar Napa bottles that much better or just status? — 6 months ago

Château Talbot

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

Nose has blackberry/blueberry jam, fresh roses, burnt leather, cigar humidor, dried mud and spring violets.

Palate has rain soaked blackberries, ripe plum, dried orange zest, cedar, dried blueberries with mild tannins. Lovely wine.

Purchased in February 2005; $34. Fantastic price for this great Fourth Growth producer, I wish we'd bought a lot more on this vintage.

Decanted 5H at the time of notes, more time appreciated. A beautiful wine, drink 2025-2030. Paired with Allen Bros. rib caps tonight, delectable. 😉

Domaine du Pegau

Cuvée Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2019

2019 vintage. A perennial fave CDP. 14.5% ABV. Blended with a lucky 13 (!!) different grapes but mainly Grenache (80%), Syrah (6%) and Mourvèdre (4%). Plushy, fruity and spicy nose. Medium-heavy body. Big, full fruit and structure frontal and mid palate with the spice kicking in at the end. Drinking great now and this will be a fantastic wine for the holidays but pack away/hide what you can afford to for the years to come because this is a wine worth tracing over the next two decades. — 3 months ago
