More robust than most Etna Rossi. Slow sipping and thoroughly enjoyable. — 4 years ago
Good luck pulling your attention away from the 2017 Catarratto Praruar. All it takes is one tilt of the golden-amber-colored nectar in your glass, and its exotic bouquet of sugar-dusted ginger, dried nectarines, crushed green apple, geranium and mint creates a unique yet captivating display. This is powerful and deeply textural, with a pretty inner sweetness balanced by brisk acids and tart orchard fruits, complemented by savory brown spice and a mind-bending addition of cocoa toward the close. For all of its density, the Praruar turns squeaky-clean through the finale, yet still full of lively energy, resonating on floral-tinged peaches and pears. Frankly, this is probably the most interesting interpretation of Catarratto that I’ve ever experienced; but be aware that it is unabashedly an orange-style wine, which won’t appeal to all palates. Juicy , berry notes from first opening — 5 years ago
Opened and poured into a decanter immediately prior to service. The 2017 “Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico” pours a deep, slightly hazy ruby color with a translucent core. Medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of funky strawberries (leaves and all), dark cherries, forest floor, horse blanket (yes, there is a kiss of brettanomyces), some dried herbs, and some light spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes on the nose. The finish is medium+, tart and slightly savory. A lovely wine with character and Sicilian charm. Drinking well now with a short decant and should continue to do so through 2030 with ease. — 3 years ago
Superb!!! Dried Figs, Apricot, honey, and flower. A nice level of sweetness and tartness…kind of like baked apples. Great with our cheese on the beach. — 4 years ago
First vintage of a joint venture between two important Italian wine families. Bright ruby color. Black cherry and mulberry fruit on the nose with an intense hit of volcanic ash and soft herbal hints. Ripe red fruit flavors with a flinty note on the finish. Medium bodied with intense acidity. Polished. Good food wine. — 5 years ago
Similar to two previous notes. An outstanding delicious natural wine. Pale Orange in colour with a little cloudiness. Dried grass, honeysuckle, apricot and skinnsy aromas. Luscious on the palate with a skinnsy bitterness. Savoury peach, quince and apricot. This is an example of an excellent natural skin contact wine and why young people in particular love wines such as this. Thoroughly delicious. No need for further cellaring. — 5 years ago
