Carmenere 2019

Wily and coy, leading me down a dusk-lit walkway of cobblestones and cascading ivy, whispering and beckoning through the shadows to a well hidden speakeasy entrance where it knows the doorperson. Must let it open for some minutes before tasting, let the demons out and then the softness reveals itself….

Château Les Tuileries

Cru Bourgeois Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2011

10 years of aging (oops lost in the cellar) has treated this 2011 surprisingly well it has lost the smoky notes I tasted a couple years ago and in its place is an earthier blackberry red currant which is quite pleasant. Still has a great silky mouth feel. I decanted this for 2 hrs, tasting every so often and I'm not 100% sure when it was drinking it's best.

Château Simian

les Grandes Grenachieres d'Hippolyte Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2007

Oops. This is one of those rare instances that I didn’t realize what I was opening and what I paid for it. This is not your average Monday night wine. As I was drinking it (semi blind) I was thinking this was darn good. One of the best CDP I’ve had in quite a while. Sexy and stunning without flaws. I wish I had more of this! — 3 years ago

Bourgogne Chardonnay 2017

Oops, forgot I had this so recently. Oh well, very different from previous btls and not nearly so oak dominant. Definitely ripe with sweet apple and meyer lemon, but well-integrated lemon chiffon. On the palate: fantastic acidity, sweet citrus, soft mint, velvety mouthfeel, and a tarragon, sweet apple finish. Without a doubt my best btl so far, but still nothing like the 14, 16 or 18. — a year ago

Les Grenouilles Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2008

Nose is mineral and iodine.

Palate is similar. Dense mouthfeel but not dense fruit. Fruit is silky.

A slight hint of green.

Hall of very good. But not Ina negative way. I’m loving this with no carb vegetable “lasagna”. Oy that makes me sound like a Californian.

Oops. At 90 minutes that insane rich caramel density shows up. Grand cru insanity all the way. Whatever. As in life with wine timing is everything.

Aulerde Großes Gewächs Riesling 2014

Oops, forgot I had this in April. Drank alongside a '14 Roulot Bourg Blanc, and paired with a pasta with morel and scallion (light) cream sauce, with some seared scallops on top. This was far and away the better pairing, but it was fun to contrast the two '14s. With the cream sauce, the perceived acidity was perfect for my palate, so an excellent showing, really showcasing the minerality and citrus. Yeah it's Tuesday, but many pandemic-related restrictions were eased today here in cali. What that actually means remains to be seen... — a year ago

Morro Rosso Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2011

Vintage 2011 / Sangiovese, Merlot and Syrah. Oops, a bit too heavy for my simple delicious pasta with tomatosauce. Better the next day with steak. Full bodied, comforting wine. Good effort. — 3 years ago
