Vintage 2010 - tasted blind, to fool my Barolo loving friends (@Berry Marinussen and @Noel Geisen recognized xinomavro, bravo). Xinomavro is Greece’s answer to nebbiolo, says Hugh Johnson. Very light colour, minerals in smell, plums. A bit difficult taste, certainly not middle-of-the-road, high in bitters and much power. Lots of character, I’d say. After aeration it’s smooth, though. Some #xinomavro potential here from #naoussa as this holds up pretty well after 15 years. Exquisite nose of tomato paste, cherries and layers of violet conducting leather and earthy aromas. Red fruit, herbs, some forest floor notes on the nose, lovely acidity on the palate plus the fine grippy tannins worked well with richer creamy pasta dishes but delicious grilled aubergine slices as well. — a year ago

The acidity is unbalanced on this wine, it seems too high because there isn’t enough rich ripe fruit to balance it. Also there are yoghurt and cheese curd notes from the malolactic fermentation that don’t match well with the other aromas and flavors. I feel disappointed because this wine has good ratings from Jancis and Robert Parker Magazine but it’s just acceptable. #xinomavro — 5 years ago

Excellent ringer for a Barolo, dead on with tar, dried rose petals, bitter red fruits and spice. Dusty texture, fine velvety tannins that firm up on the finish.
