Fonterutoli Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2013

This Chianti Classico from Mazzei is 90% Sangiovese from 4 different clones and 10% Malvasia Nera and Merlot. This lovely example spent 12 months in small oak barrels, just enough to give it a slight oaky feel in the mouth. Dark cherry, white pepper, lots of acid and a little earthiness deliver the classic Chianti flavours. The wine is well balanced, full bodied and has a pleasing finish. This will easily last another 10 years. The Mazzei family have been making wine at Castello di Fonterutoli in Tuscany since 1435. Impressive!

Jacopo Biondi-Santi

Schidione Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2011

Really ripe and rich. Too much me thinks. The freshness and crisp texture that I love in the #sangiovese grape has been lost in a blend with #cabernet and #merlot Oh yeah and then there’s the price! Completely too expensive, average price is about 120€ in Europe with no VAT included. #biondisanti #toscano #tuscany #italy Castello di Montepo is a Tuscan wine estate in the Scansano district of #Maremma Toscana, founded in the 1990s by Jacopo Biondi Santi of the famous Montalcino family.

The winery is housed in the castle Montepo itself, a single fortress building set on a rocky outcrop
In contrast to the Biondi Santi Brunello di Montalcino estate, where large Slavonian oak casks are used for maturing wines, the wines here are aged in French oak barrels.

Fonterutoli Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2010

2nd bottle of this wine in as many weeks. This one not quite as developed or complex as the last but still a good example of this Chianti vintage. Typical dark cherry, with some wood and spice, but a little disappointing on the finish. Chalk it up to this individual bottle as the last one was very quite lovely!

@MICHAEL COOPER Spectacular color on that tomato . Off-topic I was recently reading an old note of mine (posted 160 weeks ago) on a Roulot wine and I noticed you said hi Ira.
for whatever reason I did not acknowledge it. Thinking about it I worked years ago with a gentleman named Michael Cooper. Perhaps you were thinking is that the Ira I worked with. I don’t like putting information on social media so if my thought process is correct just put the initials down of where we would have worked together. If you were just being friendly I apologize for this silly post.

Sorry. I can’t think of any company in which we might have worked together. I’m 41 so perhaps that will help you know for sure. I’m a fan of the wines you drink on Delectable and have been since I joined. If you’re ever going to be in Spain let me know. I make wines called Vinos Del Viento. If you’d like to email me there, perhaps we can meet and share wines some day. I have made a few great wine friendships through Delectable. We meet whenever I’m in their neck of the woods and we have great times. Cheers.
