This Chianti Classico from Mazzei is 90% Sangiovese from 4 different clones and 10% Malvasia Nera and Merlot. This lovely example spent 12 months in small oak barrels, just enough to give it a slight oaky feel in the mouth. Dark cherry, white pepper, lots of acid and a little earthiness deliver the classic Chianti flavours. The wine is well balanced, full bodied and has a pleasing finish. This will easily last another 10 years. The Mazzei family have been making wine at Castello di Fonterutoli in Tuscany since 1435.
