Nivole Moscato d'Asti 2020

I’m a sucker for moscato. On the nose, Irish Spring (but not soapiness). On the palate, the classic moscato smoothness with honey notes at the end. — a year ago

Abbey Ridge Chardonnay 2016

Wow! Chablis in Oregon! Lemon, grass like from olive oil, a bit of cream, limestone. There’s a balance to this that makes it outstanding. Great with mushroom ravioli and on its own. Finish lingers for a long time with a creaminess and hints of citrus and touch something like cooking oil. It almost goes to petrol like a Riesling. So glad I grabbed a bottle of this. — a year ago

@Severn Goodwin yeah, I was up there in 2019 and some of the chards were great. Need to try more. Any other producers/wines you recommend?

Enderle & Moll

Liaison Pinot Noir 2018

My 5 year old son requested beef Wellington (!) for dinner but I did promise to let him choose so…challenge accepted. To accompany, Enderle & Moll’s entry level PN from 2018. Like a lot of 2018s in the old world it’s uncharacteristically ripe but nevertheless absolutely stunning. Soft as satin, a profusion of cherries and rose petals — a year ago

Nice! Almost entry level, this is tier number two, one less expensive wine down, that's almost as good...

Ferrari-Carano

Sonoma County Merlot 2018

Medium boldness on the nose - cranberry, slightly floral. And about the same on the palate. Slightly tart, acidic, and medium flavor. What I’d expect from a nice Merlot. Opened it a few hours ago, and should have aerated it too. — a year ago

Piper-Heidsieck

Rare Millésimé Brut Champagne Blend 2008

As always the most showy and approachable of the 08’s. Soft fruit, sweet edges. Pretty and long… really delicious. — a year ago

Domaine Pascal Cotat

La Grande Côte Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2015

Ok, this is still a baby but also a very good wine. After 1 hour decant the marmalade is remarkable in the scent and taste. I’m always I fan of this estate and is a great P/Q — a year ago

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1986

See previous note from 96 weeks ago where I said that I would drink the last one when my son Hugh was home from NY (born 1987) which came to pass last night. Overall not as impressive as the previous tasting but retains its silky tannin structure. Very dark in colour - opaque. Notes of cassis and pipe tobacco - overall dusty without the depth of fruit of the previous tasting. Just medium bodied. Tasting Book recommend a drinking window till 2035 which I would not agree with. Leads me to think I will be drinking my bottles of 86 Mouton sooner rather than later. — a year ago

@Michael Herzog It’s a good idea to do this I think Michael. We also have a daughter Georgie who was born in 1989. We will be drinking an old Bordeaux from that year sometime in the next few days before they both return to work overseas.

@Bill Bender Nice to hear from you Bill. We are well and I hope you are as well. We ended up having an 89 Mouton when the kids were home. Wonderful aromatics. Weather cooling down. Hope it’s warm enough to go for a surf over Easter. Cheers.

Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin

La Grande Dame Brut Champagne Blend 2006

We are loving the toast, marzipan, almond paste, brioche, dried apricot, dried apple, crushed white rose petals, and pastry notes coming from this beauty - nearly confectionery!

It turns out we love vintage bubbles 🥂 🍾
