Such an amazing chardonnay! Medium straw color; wild aromas of sagebrush, dried citrus peel and stones, persistent and true, decidedly distinctive; medium bodied, tight and well built on the palate, lengthy and lasting; dry, excellent acidity, great balance; wild and crazy flavors beyond what most folks are used to, brazenly stoney, with a bitter citrus peel in the flavors; long finish, tightly would and impactful in the aftetaste. (Best Served: 2014-2020) One of the world's greatest Chardonnays! [Sourcing: Beechworth] [Winemaking Highlights: 100% barrel fermented (approximately 30% new French oak), 100% malolactic fermentation]; aged 22 months] #chardonnay #australia #giaconda #whitewine — 10 years ago
One of my great tasting moments of 2014. Deep ruby, blackish color; outstanding ripe fruit aroma, showing some red and black, a touch of barrel, medium to full depth; medium bodied, firm and stylish at the same time on the palate; dry, medium acidity, well balanced; refined ripe fruit flavors, some sweet oak, excellent concentration; medium to long finish. The only sin this one has is that it is wedged between to incredible vintages. (Best Served: 2017-2035) [Sourcing: Vineyard Region- Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, Magill Estate [Composition: 98% Shiraz, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon] #penfolds #australia #redwine — 10 years ago
A cabernet that we can count on has produced a solid 2012 effort! Dark ruby color, almost brooding; ripe currants and dust in the aromas, pretty much what I had expected, fine depth and range of elements; medium bodied, pert and piquant on the palate, well integrated tannins; dry, nice acidity, well balanced; ripe currants and berries in the flavors, with a bit of oak, very good concentration; ripe berries and sweet oak in the flavors, nicely melded; medium finish, sweet tannins in the aftertaste. This is a trealy fine BV Rutherford and ranks amongst the winery's best. (Tasted: January 5, 2015, San Francisco, CA) (Best Served: 2014-2019) [Sourcing: 80% of the grapes are from vineyard blocks in BV Ranches No. 1, No. 2 and No. 10; 95% Rutherford AVA and 5% Napa AVA] [Composition: 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec] [Winemaking Highlights: Barrel Aging 15 months (50% French oak, 35% American oak, 15% Hungarian oak (25% new barrels)] [Technical: 14.3% alcohol, 5.9g/L acidity, 3.70 pH] [Jeffrey Stambor, Winemaker] #cabernetsauvignon #napacabernet #beaulieuvineyard #redwines #napavalley — 10 years ago
Absolutely one of my TOP TEN WINE EXPERIENCES OF 2014! Pales in to the incredible 2008 which I enjoyed in 2013. Deep ruby, black color; super-fine and ultra-rich, yet deftly elegant aroma of bold black fruits, incredibly classic and youthful, one of the most exciting young wine aromas I have experienced; medium bodied, rich and substantive on the palate, seamless with sweet tannins; black fruit, a light twist of American oak; long finsh, lusty aftertaste. This is a pretty amazing wine, very close to the incredible 2008. (Best Served: 2020-2045) — 10 years ago
Simply outstanding! Medium straw yellow color, active and steady beads; green apple and mineral in the aromas, bright and lively, excellent energy and depth; medium bodied, zesty and buoyant on the palate, pretty strong effervescence; dry, fine acidity, well balanced; superior freshness, tart apples, some mineral and yeastiness; long finish, bright aftertaste. A wonderful effort, bright and zesty. Made from 52% Chardonnay and 48% Pinot Noir. (Best Served: 2014-2019) #bubbly #roederer #andersonvalley #sparklingwine — 10 years ago
One of my TOP TEN WINE EXPERIENCES OF 2014. Simply love this wine! Medium straw, light yellow color; dried apple and mineral in the nose, understated and persistent and eerily deductive; medium bodied; dry, medium acidity, well balanced; tart apple flavors, some slate; medium finish. An amazing dry chenin blanc made in a style unheard of in American winemaking circles. (Best Served: 2014-2017) (Tasted: August 25, 2014, San Francisco, CA) [Sourcing: Vineyard planted in the early 1980's on very sandy soils in the Foxen Canyon district] [Winemaking: Tank fermented, transferred to neutral wood for the winter, racked back to tank for a few months prior to bottlng] [Eric Railsback-Winemaker] #whitewine #cheninblanc #santaynezvalley #centralcoast — 10 years ago
A super exciting, multi-dimensional wine! Deep ruby, garnet color; exotic black fruit aroma, with a complementary nudge of oak, berry-scented; medium bodied, firm and well built on the palate; dry, medium acidity, well balanced; complex flavors of red and black fruits, lots of flavor interest; medium finish. One of the great Pinot Noirs in the state, needs more time to gain further complexities. (Best Served: 2019-2027) [Composition: 100% Pinot Noir] [Winemaking Highlights: Multi-yeast fermentations (wild & cultured), 15% whole clusters, 100% malo-lactic fermentation in barrel; 65% new Burgundian French oak barrels; bottled without fining or filtration] [Production: 684 cases] [James Hall, Winemaker] — 10 years ago
What an incredible experience! Medium straw, light yellow color; beautiful ripe apple aroma, with a hint of yeastiness; quite precise and luxurious, incredibly elegant, frisky and super alive; medium bodied, rich, layered and stylish on the palate; dry, fine acidity, well balanced; excellent super-young flavors of ripe apple and light yeastiness; long finish, subtle layers in the aftertaste. One of the best wines, I have ever enjoyed. This is a wine for the ages. (Best Served: 2022-2040) — 10 years ago
Medium straw, yellow color; very grapey, Welch's-like, tooti-fruity aroma, note of flowers; really sweet, soft acidity, fair balance; candied flavors, all about primary fruit flavors; medium finish, super easy aftertaste. This wine has all the correct flavors, could be a tad drier in the end. (Best Served: 2013-2014) #wine #fingerlakes #diamond #semisweet — 10 years ago
