Santorini Dry Assyrtiko 2019

I kept thinking that I’ve had this wine before but was thrown with the blue bottle. Oh, and the bottle is also awkwardly squarish at the top. Same wine. Different vintage. Different bottle. More tart than I recall the 2018, but hey, I’m drinking this in a pandemic in Chicago vs. in Greece. Lemon. Lime. Salty. Bits of apple. Great wine nonetheless. — 5 years ago

Chappellet

Mountain Cuvée Proprietor's Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2015

Hey there chaps. If you're feeling chapfallen, then this mountainous cuvee could easily usher in a new chapter in your lives. One that even Monsieur Chaptal would deem a sweet choice. I tip my Chapeau to the chapt who made this Chappellet. Pairs well with Chapatties. I felt like a chapleted chaplain having ditched his chaperones and chaplaincies. Shows notes reminiscent of chaparral. So see your roving Chapman for a bottle worthy of being displayed on your chapiters! — 8 years ago

Domaine Dujac

Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1993

#theoldmanswine. Really nice showing. Truthfully this was in contention for wine of the night. (For me anyway). Part of a flight of 93s because hey 93, but they all didnt really gel for me the way they should have. — 9 years ago

Chassagne-Montrachet Chardonnay 2019

Tasted in wine class: Super for a village chard, but hey, not exactly any ordinary village. Complex and intense. Nice oak too. — 4 years ago

Vision Cellars

Pinot Noir 2018

Hey, Delectable— this is the Visions 2018 North Coast Pinot, but the ID wasn’t available.

Unabashedly ripe and warm, but with a distinctive umami flavor (hoisin sauce?) that I’m really digging. Black cherry, black plum and even blue fruit on the nose and palette. Lovely satiny texture. Medium + finish.

Hedonistic in the way you’d expect from a winemaker mentored by the Wagners, but the suppleness and umami notes make this wine stand out in a sea of north coast Pinot Noir, and the absence of new oak lets the fruit do the taking. Perfect with chicken lettuce wraps and haricot verts smothered in Madeira mushroom cream sauce.

Owner/founder, Mac Macdonald, has been making his own California Pinot Noir for more than 25 vintages now and it shows. Side note: he’s also one of the better story tellers in the biz.

Initially sampled as part of a tasting with the
#AAAV (Association of African American Vintners) and took the bottle home.

Il Rosso Alfio Moriconi Selection Toscana Sangiovese 2019

Clear garnet. Nose of black cherry and roses. Medium light, fruity palate of black cherry, violets, and a hint of anise. Medium plus acidity. Medium minus tannins. Hey, it’s a solid Sangiovese that’ll go great with Italian-American fare or medium cheeses. Drink now. — 6 years ago

Calendal (Philippe Cambie et Gilles Ferran)

Plan de Dieu par Côtes du Rhône Villages Red Rhône Blend 2012

One of my favorite dinners was on the menu here at Chez Skip - cassoulet! And my knowledge of wine pairing is as sophisticated as a toddler eating spaghetti, I said to myself - hey I am eating French food and I like this French wine, so hey why not? And that was that. But as wine can be, it evoked its memory of when I had it first. I remember sitting out in the patio and being impressed with it. I thought to myself I could really enjoy French wines, but as history has shown, that was clearly a short lived notion.

Knowing it had been some time, I had an odd feeling, so I checked my Delectable history. Indeed, this was the very first wine I had rated!

So, to my friends, do you remember your first wine on here? Was it anything memorable?

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

The treadmill will have to wait until tomorrow!

A wondrous nose of classic cab fruits, a big wine with big ambitions. Cedar wrapped bacon, flame cooked to perfection. My lass said open a good one! I think I have. Fairly pricey, yet hey, it’s NYD.
Hold for up to 5 more years I’m thinking...
