Decant that bleep, draw off the sed and give the wine a chance to excel. The great/excellent/above average wines need to be decanted for them to realize their potential. That Abreu demands it. People afraid to decant shizz like it's gonna vanish. Okay...maybe if it's a 1923 DRC red burg or 1877 Lafite but otherwise, decant. If the wine is as great as you think/expect, decant it unless planning on spending most of the day/evening.

I didn’t really get into big decants until 2018 when I shredded my meniscus and couldn’t drive for my business. I was home so let’s start experimenting at noon🤷🏼‍♂️. I’d sample my wines for hours and take note of which styles needed air and others in particular new wines that were over extracted that would shut down with an hour of air. I almost know what I’m doing nowadays.

Agreed, frankly I prefer this type of experience. The less I spend, the more value I extract when the wine is this good. Also, WS rated this 94pts and I consider their ratings to be the most reliable out there…

This is fresh, tasty and age-worthy, and it has good ripeness, 13% alcohol and good acidity and minerality. 98 point review from Jeb- Made from 100% Grenache brought up all in demi-muids, the 2016 Gigondas Clovis Saurel is deeply colored and offers an extraordinary bouquet of kirsch liqueur, strawberries, garrigue, crushed flowers, and exotic spices. It's ripe, sexy, opulent and powerful, yet graceful and elegant, with no hard edges, and brilliant tannins. It’s a big step up from the 2015 (which is a great wine in its own right) and is one of the true gems in the vintage

Actually I don’t see anyone else having this bottling Saurel, there are a lot of Gigondas obviously

Love Saint-Damien but didn’t know this cuvée existed from them.

You win some you lose some on these older secondary bottles. Dumped a 97 Phelps Napa last week.

The impossible to pronounce 2013 He-Li-An-Thus, coming from purchased grapes, is a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 18% Petit Verdot and the rest Cabernet Franc, bottled unfined and unfiltered. Aged in Darnajou oak, this is an elegant wine, but it has serious intensity, a blue/purple color, sweet black raspberry and blueberry fruit, some forest floor and spring flowers.
