Celebrating our completion of the WSET Level 3 exam today!
It was a labor of love. Results won’t be released for several months, but, hey, we poured ourselves into this prep and so wine not celebrate the milestone of getting ‘er done!

I kept thinking that I’ve had this wine before but was thrown with the blue bottle. Oh, and the bottle is also awkwardly squarish at the top. Same wine. Different vintage. Different bottle. More tart than I recall the 2018, but hey, I’m drinking this in a pandemic in Chicago vs. in Greece. Lemon. Lime. Salty. Bits of apple. Great wine nonetheless. — 4 years ago
Clear garnet. Nose of black cherry and roses. Medium light, fruity palate of black cherry, violets, and a hint of anise. Medium plus acidity. Medium minus tannins. Hey, it’s a solid Sangiovese that’ll go great with Italian-American fare or medium cheeses. Drink now. — 4 years ago
Glou glou. Goes down fast and easy. — 5 years ago
Tasted in wine class: Super for a village chard, but hey, not exactly any ordinary village. Complex and intense. Nice oak too. — 3 years ago
Hey, Delectable— this is the Visions 2018 North Coast Pinot, but the ID wasn’t available.
Unabashedly ripe and warm, but with a distinctive umami flavor (hoisin sauce?) that I’m really digging. Black cherry, black plum and even blue fruit on the nose and palette. Lovely satiny texture. Medium + finish.
Hedonistic in the way you’d expect from a winemaker mentored by the Wagners, but the suppleness and umami notes make this wine stand out in a sea of north coast Pinot Noir, and the absence of new oak lets the fruit do the taking. Perfect with chicken lettuce wraps and haricot verts smothered in Madeira mushroom cream sauce.
Owner/founder, Mac Macdonald, has been making his own California Pinot Noir for more than 25 vintages now and it shows. Side note: he’s also one of the better story tellers in the biz.
Initially sampled as part of a tasting with the #AAAV (Association of African American Vintners) and took the bottle home.

The treadmill will have to wait until tomorrow!
A wondrous nose of classic cab fruits, a big wine with big ambitions. Cedar wrapped bacon, flame cooked to perfection. My lass said open a good one! I think I have. Fairly pricey, yet hey, it’s NYD.
Hold for up to 5 more years I’m thinking...
Lovely loooong lingering tannins and Sour cherry acidity.

The wine exhibits a brilliant golden hue. On the nose are aromas of apricot, apples, citrus and a slight pineapple note. The palate is savory, with all the fruit mentioned plus salinity and a nuttiness. The acidity is quite fresh. Pair this one with anything from the sea or a pasta dish in a creamy white sauce. — 6 months ago
