Canterbury Pinot Noir 2012

We opened the bottle for an hour before dinner. Initially a powerful aroma of blackberries flooded the dining room. Slowly it mutated to black and red cherries with earth. Multi layered complexity the wine was an absolute pleasure to drink with. If you look at QPR it would@blow all burgundies out of the water! Simply sensational! — 7 days ago

Single Vineyard North Canterbury Sauvignon Blanc 2021

Drinking a 21 vintage in 21 - this always strikes me as odd, but these 6 months old NZ SBS are so vibrant and fresh, it’s just a total delight. — 5 months ago

Waipara Pinot Noir 2020

A producer new to me but a district I love as in Waipara or Canterbury north of Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand. Wonderful red fruited aromatics with minerality, freshly tilled soils, compost heap (Sous Bois) and various spices. From gravel soil vineyards in North Canterbury. Aged in French Oak barrels for about 18 months. No fining or filtration. Canterbury flies under the radar for many wine lovers but I can assure you it is a source of high quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Bell Hill is worth seeking out. — a month ago

Old Weka Pass Road Pinot Noir 2016

See previous note from 70 weeks ago. Similar this time. A pale to mid crimson in colour. A gorgeous red fruited perfume of mainly red cherry and also violets together with Sous Bois and whole bunch influence. Medium plus intensity on the palate. As I said previously reminiscent of Vosne Romanee. A seriously good Pinot as Bob Campbell MW said and I totally agree. Only 1897 bottles produced. — a month ago

Waipara Valley Sauvignon Blanc-Sémillon Blend 2018

KD
9.1

Pale gold with notes of citrus, lemongrass, boxwood, apricot, gooseberry and a touch of honey. Medium body with fresh acidity balanced. On the palate some lime, key lime pie, passionfruit, kiwis, good minerality with a touch of creaminess and savory spice. Nice! The addition of the sémillon really lends a nice body and exotic notes to this wine. — 3 months ago
