See previous Delectable note from 2 years ago. Dark yellow/light orange in colour. White and yellow florals with orange peel and minerals. Traces of large oak influence. I still struggle with the idea of oak and Riesling - I guess it’s an old Germanic thing. M minus acid. Quite sweet the next day although essentially dry at 12.5% ABV. — 4 years ago

Tonight I have opened the 2018 Château D'Aiguilhe Comtes von Neipperg. From Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux on the Right Bank. Blend of 80%Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.
On the nose is black cherry, black plum, black raspberry, green bell pepper, black olive, herbaceous notes, mocha and cedar.
On the palate there is black cherry, black raspberry, plum, black currant, green bell pepper, herbs and cedar.
A beautiful medium to full bodied wine with a silky and succulent mouthfeel with medium + acidity and medium + fine tannins that has a long dark black and blue fruit finish. The weekend has started and everyone seems, from what I see, feels this pandemic is finally over. Please continue to be careful out there and stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 5 years ago

Gorgeously poignant mineral nose. Lemon, lemon flower. Closed but it’s all there. Direct mineral essence that goes straight up your nose. Yellow flowers, wild mint, melon, green possibly orange. Wow the mint, Really intense and expansive. Palate is so silky and my goodness what a mineral explosion. Round and yet so mineral. Wow. This is mindblowing. So juicy and compact. Amazing, wine of the collection mouthfeel and a finish that just keeps pumping the most intense and mouth caressing minerals. The nose is such a round, mineral bomb. Omg the fruit is coming out. Tangelo, red grapefruit, kumquat. Not a loud wine but a serene, gentle wine that has not one hair out of place. This is becoming the signature wine of the estate. 19/21/22 all perfect or near perfect wines. Wow what a silky texture and just perfect balance. Salty finish. Let’s see what air does. Sensational. As this opens the nose becomes crazy confectionary. The palate is silky, textured, dense and superbly balanced and pure but seems to be closing. But what a finish. — 3 years ago
Another genius nose the the Baden Master of Wine. So stoney with oodles of pit fruits. Clean and expansive nose with huge minerals and an airy cloud like ephemerality. Gorgeous elite grapiness as well but this is a young nose that is a bit unformed but one can see the genius here. This will take a bit to unfurl. Some herbals and sugar snap peas develop as well. Complex and juicy but so reserved right now. The length and depth let one know this has a lot to say even if it is quiet right now. Very very persistent with vivid fruit skin details.
The nose is coming alive now with a scents of grape skins, herbs, forest floor, rubber and tree bark. So complex. What an unfurling. Palate has classic bee sting. A honeyed richness followed by acid that collects on the tip of the tongue. This so fruit skin focused and pure. So so unique and delicious but it needs more time. I will be back.

Now the high end Jurgen wines. Sick nose. Incredible. The next cult German Pinot. It’s so obvious. Nose of intense black cherries, mid season best of bunch red cherries, some cooling blueberry that echoes Cecile Tremblay. Loads of spice and earth. But so so so refined. Delicate yet intense nose. Superb. Beguiling. Huge minerality. Smells like red rocks. You sniff for 10 minutes before you sip as it is so good and keeps changing. After 10 minutes there is massive complex aromas. Palate has insane inner mouth perfume and massive elegance. Incredible palate. Mega juicy and so complex. So pure and clean. Lithe and elegant but intensely flavored with bursting mid season red and black cherries. Incredible energy and sweetness of fruit and man it is so so elegant. Pure as the driven snow. This is mega elite. The intensity combined with delicacy is incredible. Masterful balance and top of the line purity. Delicate and powder tannins with perfect ethereal ripeness. 9.5 for now. But I see this going higher. Insanely long finish. — 6 years ago

This reminds me of taking a picture that’s very special in the moment and later reviewing it to find that is just a touch out of focus… You still see everything but it’s just not as clear and sharp as you would like it. There were moments when this felt like a 90 point wine and then there were moments when it dipped Dash I think the winemaking is in a very good place, perhaps this is needed just a little more time on the vine or a little less intervention in the cellar. Was completely serviceable and yummy with house burgers, but just was a little disjointed to be in the elite level of mid-Atlantic PVs. Perhaps it just lacked that complex cities and voluptuousness that’s possible with this highly aromatic and texture of wine. I would like to taste their 15, which was a really good vintage in North Carolina. This particular offering spent 28 months in peril, which is a really long time to find itself - The terroir is promising :) — 7 years ago
This was a great deal. Fun fruity and with a balance on the back end. To be honest I could see this being a New Zealand sayv Blanc perhaps but I would imagine it to be 2x the cost this was. Maybe it’s my adoration of German wines highly recommended for the price — 3 years ago
The 2020 Müller-Thurgau Feldmarschall von Fenner bursts from the glass with a captivating mix of nectarine and lemon zest complicated by crushed rocks and curry leaves. This is texturally deep, flowing across the palate like pure silk. A saline mineral perfectly contrasts core citrus-tinged orchard fruits and ripe melon. The word salty doesn’t do this justice, as the 2020 finishes distinctively savory and intensely spicey, reverberating with residual acids that keep the mouth watering for more. While still relatively young, this is utterly fantastic. I can’t wait to see what a few years of cellaring might reveal. (Eric Guido, Vinous, May 2023) — 3 years ago
Like the Keller Von der Fels, we've got a GG-killer over here. According to Pinard de Picard, this is the second most sought after Riesling in Germany, after the VdF of course, and I can definitely see why. It's intense and concentrated, yet super fine. Aromas of tangerine, lemon drops, white flowers, smoke, wet stones, and nutmeg. The palate's a little more forgiving than previous encounters with Julian's wines. Nice fruit richness, but don't get me wrong, the acidity's still the trademark enamel-stripping kind. Really enjoyed this wine, but the best thing is it's price. Such great value! — 7 years ago

Medium gold. Aromas of green apple, peach, honey, petroleum, pineapple, and pear. The palate has notes of lemon, lime, and minerality, with a medium body and smooth texture. The acidity is high yet remarkably balanced. A bit tight at first, it opens up beautifully with air. Enjoyable now, but I’d love to see how it evolves over the next 5-10 years.
