This is a really interesting incarnation of Melville’s Block M. The regular 2014 had some stem inclusion (25%, I think, but I’m not sure about that fraction). As a small lot experiment, Greg Brewer produced a small amount absent the stem inclusion. Fascinating difference. Whereas the regular has a distinctive earthy undercurrent, this one is all about the fruit. Not in a jammy sense, but some really spectacular St Rita Hills aromatics that’s less structured than the regular bottling. By dropping the temp down a few degrees, you get a really interesting, profound flavor profile driven by the acidity of the fruit (as opposed to the added tannins from the stems). Probably doesn’t have the longevity of the regular bottling, but is drinking beautifully right now. — 18 hours ago
It's a Pinot, it's a Beaujolais, it's a.....Rosé? Pulled at the last second and aged for a year, this wine is going great. Medicinal black cherry and sharp acidity on the entry. Middle goes a little bit lighter and finishes with more of a drunk red cherry. This is the most interesting Rosé I have ever experienced and if this was served to me blind I don't think I ever would have guessed this was a Rosé. I think this one has incredible aging potential. — 10 days ago
2017 Memorious Pinot Noir
2017 Bloom’s Field Pinot Noir
2017 La Côte Pinot Noir
2017 Sous le Chene Pinot Noir
2014 Sandhi Blanc de Blancs
All Pinot Noirs were delicious. Memorious tasted some spice with black pepper. Bloom’s Field showed darker fruits. La Côte was fuller in body and riper on aromas. Sous le Chene had the best concentration and the most complex profile with hint of wild bouquet. The Blanc de Blancs was refreshing with a tad of funkiness, possibly from VA and a little oxidation, 3 years on lees, all adding to the character.
What’s especial about Sous le Chene is that it’s sourced from this 10 rows of vines literally right next to La Côte but you can somehow really taste the difference between the two. — 2 hours ago
One of the great White Pinot Noirs made in the world, I have been fascinated by this wine since it was first made more than a decade ago. The 2017 ‘Coeur Blanc’ opens with an enticing bouquet of cantaloupe, marzipan, white rose and shades of Pazzaz apple that all meld together nicely in the glass. The palate reveals a refined, silky texture and entices. Generous on the mouth, this white Pinot Noir unveils seriously good range from melon tones to green apple and shades of wild mushroom and wet stone. The bright sense of minerality and the generous texture really sing here. While outstanding now, this true heavyhitter of a wine will only become more silky and complex as it ages. Floral nose, peppery and more complex than the other Vulcan petnat. Cloudy, no sediment — 21 days ago
3rd generation grower Jim Maresh launched his own brand in 2007. Maresh Vineyard was first planted in 1970 by grandparents Jim & Loie. Aromas of attractive red berry fruits with a touch of cooling mint. On the palate cherry and berry fruits, well structured, with a touch of rustic spice. Fine soft tannins, balanced with acidity, medium-bodied, long finish ending with earthy mineral character. Very Nice! — 4 days ago
Kelley’s Pinot Gris spends almost 3 weeks on the skins with foot treading once each day. You can imagine the resulting flavor explosion. Think cranberries and crushed wild flowers and a refreshing mineral water finish. This is the type of rosé that can stand up to a full flavored dish! 😋💖 — 3 days ago
It has been awhile since I have had a good Sauvignon Blanc and tonight is one of those nights. I have opened the 2017 Wither Hills Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough New Zealand.
A beautiful expression of Sauvignon Blanc on the nose is I am getting lime, kiwi fruit, nectarine, guava, papaya, herbs and wet concrete.
The palate brings out notes of lime, green apple, white peach, grapefruit, lemongrass, and crushed stone.
This wine is medium bodied with medium + acidity and that leads into crisp clean chalky finish. The weekend is on us and it looks to be a good one so please be safe and have fun. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂 — 3 days ago
