California Red Blend 2019

Nose of dark fruits like blackberries, vanilla, milky chocolate, a bit tobacco leaves, and some more cherry flavors. Taste follows the nose with good fruity notes plus a bit oaky feeling. Sweet, mouthful, low tannins, and a bit peppery. Aftertaste is also clean with some more grapes and bitter note. Consider the price, quite amazing. — a day ago

Torres Alegre

Cru Garage Sauvignon Blanc 2006

How a couple of these bottles landed in my cellar is a story best saved for another day. Needless to say, this is sixteen year old Sauv Blanc from Baja California by a renowned producer in the region.

The wine has a medium to deep yellow tone with floral and mature pineapple scents. The pallet is two dimensional: starts round with white tea flavors then turns to waxy buttery and vanilla flavors.
Light, low alcohol; the finish is slightly acidic and citrus but substancial.

Turned into an interesting wine where I wasn’t expecting much to be honest. My brain is baffled as parts of the wine taste a lot like a young heavily oaked Cali Chard. Must pair the remaining bottle; thinking a creamy and slightly spicy chile poblano soup. Hopefully that’ll clear up my baffling…

Vino Tinto Tempranillo Blend 2019

Really well balanced red blend from Baja California. Ripe fruit balanced well with acidity. Improved with time, so could use a solid decant. Great with pizza. — 22 days ago

Modus Operandi Cellars

Caldwell Vineyard Syrah 2018

This is actually the 2018 Modus Operandi Caldwell Vineyard Syrah. Color is deep purple with scents of bacon fat, plum sauce, cigar box, and maybe camphor. After opening up a bit, I get cardamom and vanilla, as well. Nose is a little funky, but not in a bad way. Bold, medium to full-bodied wine. Medium to high acidity. Medium level of tannins. This was the best wine in a blind tasting of Syrahs with DuMol and Kimsey. Both my wife and I ranked it #1. The finish was significantly longer and more pleasant than the others. — 9 days ago

Red Blend 2019

Organic grapes! Not too fancy looking label. Dark as blood. Smells like fresh cut wood, a musty library and deep red-purple plum sauce. Flavors are balanced out with a bittersweet tannic edge to match the berry and lighter roast coffee flavors. Also has a fresh chocolate mint leaves meets fennel fronds thing in there. Easy drinking, but dense enough to drink with aged cheddar cheeses. This is a great deal, and example of the type of blend I love. And the icing on the carrot cake is the organic grapes. — 8 days ago

I think it might have been. It’s also a lot like the organic reserve red blend they have there.
