The wine served tonight is the 2016 Meerlust Rubicon Cabernet Sauvignon Blend. This is from the Meerlust Estate Stellenbosch, South Africa. The blend is 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot.
On the nose there is cherry, strawberry, plum, green bell pepper, herbal notes, vanilla, licorice, minerals and dark rich soil.
On the palate I am getting black cherry, blackberry, strawberry, black currant, licorice, green bell pepper, vanilla, some oak, minerality and soil.
The wine is full bodied with a smooth mouthfeel medium + acidity and medium + grippy mouthcoating tannins that leaves you with a ling black fruit mineral finish. Eventhough we are still in the in the midst of fall, there is a feel of winter crisp and clean on ones face. This weekend please stay safe and healthy and let us enjoy family and friends for they are what keep us strong. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 12 days ago
Nice complexity but with extremely soft tannins. Aromas and flavors of raspberry, cranberry, dark chocolate, violets, pencil shavings, leather and sweet spices. Lovely herbal component on the finish. Bright and pure with vibrant acidity. Full bodied but well balanced. Quite good. — 12 days ago
Full, dark fruits, peppery finish, full body, earthy and sweet. Quite delicious! — 5 days ago
Deep ruby; medium plus intensity aromas of black plum, black cherry, cedar, leather, tobacco, black pepper, ; dry, medium acid, medium plus rustic tannins, high alcohol, full bodied, medium intensity flavors a bit more restrained than aromas; medium finish, flavors not as concentrated or complex as aromas, very good — 14 days ago
Fresh and exotic with ripe peach, papaya, a hint of ginger. A touch of reduction adds a nice edge.
On the palate this is rounded from the foudres aging but the nice saline acidity balanced it perfectly. Papaya, peach and ginger plus a mineral bedrock.
Fresh & juicy with a creamy aftertaste of first nougat, then lemongrass and a salty spray.
Delicious drinking. — 8 days ago
Thick in the mouth, but refreshing salinity. Lime, lots of lime and a bit of minerals. Yummy! — 9 days ago
