Paul Jaboulet Aîné

Les Jumelles Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2020

2020 vintage. Everything is great these days at Jaboulet (négoce wines and estate wines alike) and this Côte Rôtie is no exception. "Les Jumelles" (French for " twins" ) is a blend of Côte Blonde and Côte Brune. It is a terrific effort in a vintage that maintained impressive freshness in a very hot year. A beautiful nose with red and black fruits and flowers. It has depth and elegance, refined tannins and great length. Abv.14%. — 4 years ago

Happy New Year Everyone!!

Cristal for the parents and sparkling apple juice for the twins!

Cristal doesn’t hold a candle to my go to of Bollinger Le Grand Annee, but is always nice on a special occasion! Was very restrained and probably will be better in 5+yrs.

Insignia Estate Grown Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2014

Took care of the twins and definitely deserved a wine of this quality. Long Lingering fruit, well balanced, with great tannins. Young with huge upside 🍷Almost worth being full time babysitter — 8 years ago

Brut Rosé Champagne Chardonnay Blend

After weeks of landscaping, Spring cleaning and house guests for the last three weekends, Sofia and I finally have a weekend to kick it in the backyard. Watch the games, BBQ & sip some wine. Further, Sofia is back on the BSR train. Ahhhh...couldn’t be happier if I were twins. My go to N/V Rosé Champagne. Love it.

The pink rose petals are incredible. The acidity spot on. Lean fruits of; strawberries, cherries, tangerine, watermelon near the rhine, some yeast, baguette crust, sea spray, soft chalkiness with an edge, touch of gritty minerals, sea spray and a beautiful rich finish. From 375ml.

Category 5 Red Blend 2012

Garnet. Deep dark red cherries. Tannin only slightly pucker. Leather light. Cat 5 refers to Hugo. I was on the Puerto Rican Island of Vieques where we indeed experienced a force 5 hurricane. I’m convinced my invited daughters became twins during the storm so this wine is sentimental as is opening this bottle Mother’s Day weekend. I love Yadkin Valley as our NC wine Center. Beautiful wines are produced in small batches. — 8 years ago

Le Haut-Lieu Vouvray Chenin Blanc 2019

Apple lemon… which to me is not a great combination. Pedigree tells us that time will be good to this bottle and what I found disjointed will unite in wonder twins… form of awesome wine! (someday). — 4 years ago

L. Aubry Fils

Brut 1er Cru Champagne Blend

the aubry brothers—identical twins—make champagnes of real character and intensity, putting to use of some of the region’s half-forgotten ancient varieties like arbanne, petit meslier, and fromenteau. their meunier-dominant non-vintage brut isn’t your usual entry-level bottle, either: aromatic, rich, and deeply mineral, it seems to feel both weightless and incredibly dense. this is champagne with a point of view, and, better, one you don’t need to own a hedge fund to enjoy—you’ve wasted $40 on something more frivolous than this. anyway... i remain convinced that most of the world’s misunderstandings could be solved in a single evening with the right champagne on the table. — 6 years ago

Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

First and foremost, having this with dinner from the best restaurant (Sola) in Philadelphia with the most thoughtful, generous, and passionate owner in the world!! Thank you Brian!!!

Thank you also to some of the most generous, caring, and supportive friends who gave us this bottle. Thanks Steve & Chris!!

Our twins are luckier than they know right now for having these people in their lives.

Okay, sorry, onto the wine. Deep, dark purple color in the glass. Big cherry and strawberry tones on the nose. Smells like Valentines Day. The flavor is disappointing. Maybe it needs more air or age, but rather tame and average. Great texture and easy to drink, but leaves one unsatisfied at the price level. Solid wine, with nice fruit, but isn't differentiated at all from other Napa Cabs yet alone a single vineyard of the quality of Stagecoach. Have 3 more bottles so we'll see how they progress.

Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno

Montegrilli Langhe Nebbiolo 2019

Clear garnet with gem-like highlights. Inviting nose of violets and black tea. Palate is medium full bodied and echoes the nose adding black cherry from entry and a bit of tar on the lingering finish. Well structured with assertive (but not aggressive) medium plus tannins and medium plus acidity. A Langhe that portends what’s to come when the 2019 twins of Barolo and Barbaresco are released in a few years. It’s already an excellent match for for hearty beef and pork dishes, but priced so that you can take it to the pizzeria or upscale your take out. I can’t wait for the big boys either, but enjoy this now through 2029 or so. — 5 years ago

Twins (almost)
1979 - perfumed, with pretty fruit, delicate yet structured, fragile yet alive.
1980 - opened hard, but evolved into an intellectual, harmonious wine with impressive energy and length.

Chappellet

Signature Donn Chappellet Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

From a magnum. Have had this wine on multiple occasions and it delivers. Pop and pour, dark fruits, grippy tannin, big but tight fruit little less open than the Myriad 3 twins, maybe should have decanted. — 9 years ago
