What a nose. Girard killed 18. Ripe, soppy ebullient mid to late season red cherries that are so clearly defined one cannot believe it. Ridiculous. Under all that is terrific potent sous bois and minerality. What a nose. Smoke. Minerals and so so bright. Nuanced and detailed. A “why I love” burgundy nose. Gorgeous wet moss. So so alluring. 9.4/9.5 nose. What a palate. Amazing fruit quality and such awesome, clearly defined cherry fruit. Such elegance and polished, ripe sweet tannins. It’s opulent and elegant at the same time. This has structure to burn as well and will age 15+ years. Terrific energy and sweet fruit. Best Serpentieres I’ve ever had from Girard. — 3 days ago

Cuvée de Très Vieilles Vignes Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2001

Decanted and left in cellar for 2 hours before consumption. Darker ruby color, not showing much age. Sweet fruit nose. Notes of raspberries and black fruit, slate stone, blueberries and some nice floral notes. Nicely balanced in the mouth. Has a feminine quality to it with its sweetness of the fruit, which matches well with the Gevrey structure and backbone that has softened. This is in a good spot now but probably can improve with some incremental age that can create more complexity. Has the fruit and balance to last a lot longer. — 5 days ago

Notes from a day open. Yesterday, this was bretty upon opening. Much better today. On the nose: cocoa powder, plum, soft toast..lovely and elegant. On the palate, good acidity, plum, soft game. This is Chambolle-like today, like a Veroilles from Bruno Clair, with perhaps softer acidity and more alcoholic heat on the finish. Nevertheless, fantastic. — 3 days ago

What a nose. A knockout. So complex. So floral. Beautiful pure and detailed cherry fruit. Elite florals. Roses and violets. Wet moss. Just out of hand. So clear. So well defined. Amazing stoniness that props up all the other aromas. A stoney base if you will. Superb mint/tree bark/sous bois triple play. Wow. Really tremendous clarity here. Mesmerizing. Hypnotizing. Palate is so so concentrated and super pure. The depth is crazy. Amazing purity and elegance. Sick tiny berry fruit intensity. All the darkest red cherries in a bowl of very dark cherries. The palate impact and layered off the wall concentrated fruit is the story here. Wow. Some of the best fruit I’ve ever had in a GirardSappy and dense and really coats the palate and has amazing staying power. Just sick. So so sick. What an outrageous bottle of Girard. This has length for days upon days. So long. So pure. Fruit is just insane. If this had more elegance it would be a 9.5. It’s 9.489 really. — 3 days ago

Rosé de Pinot Noir 2018

Light rose pink color in the glass with a truly magnificent nose of fresh fruit and floral accents. Just by smelling this you know it’s more than a cut above. Tons of strawberries, nectarines, apricots. A hint of vanilla and cream.

When it comes to rosé there’s just so much crap flooding the market nowadays. All are similarly priced, with the resquisite pretty label and pretty bottle. They all taste just alike too. This has depth and personality to spare. You wouldn’t call this a porch pounder, you would say it’s elegant. Definitely not a fruit bomb. Rather, it’s clean and dry.

On the palate, it’s surprisingly fresh and lively. Peaches and cream, orange zest, and melon. More red fruits and crisp acidity. Really, really nice stuff. Reaffirms my faith. It’s no surprise that PYCM makes what is probably the best rosé around, is it?

Toboni Pommard Clone Regina Rose Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

This is a very nice Pinot Noir from Russian River Valley. Showing red fruits with earth, light oak, light vegetables, chocolates, tobacco, herbs and spices.

Medium bodied with medium acidity.

Easy drinking with a nice mouthfeel.

This 4 year old is drinking very nicely now. A good food wine and good all by itself too. I gave it a slight chill and paired it with a beautiful day on the lake.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

One of the finest sites in all of SLB. Always needs age. What a nose. Just dizzying. 2018 is so good in the so called “B” villages. Nose is deep. It’s floral. Dark red roses and violets. Late season cherry fruit and also black cherries. Almost kirsch in it’s intensity. What a palate. A monster. Nuanced, clear and detailed. So deep, so fresh, so concentrated. Amazing purity and sappy red and black cherries. Powerful and also elegant. Sappy. Such nice acid and freshness has an electricity to it despite its ripeness. Wow. Exhilarating is the best word. Terrific inner mouth aromas and sweet, ripe velvety and substantial tannins. The mineral drive throughout this wine is amazing right now but some of that will meld into fruit as this ages. This needs 5 years and then oh boy. — 3 days ago

Chorey-les-Beaune Pinot Noir 2015

Thus afternoon's wine that I picked-up yesterday is the 2015 Domaine Tollot-Beaut Chorey-Les-Beaune Pinot Noir. What a beautiful wine to start the weekend off with.

I am totally loving the aromatics on this wine. There are beautiful notes of strawberry, cranberry, cherry, hibiscus, clove, mushroom, rose petal, light campfire smoke and forest floor.

On the palate there is tart cherry, cranberry, raspberry, clove, mint, spice, mushroom and an earthy forest floor.

This wine is medium to full bodied with a silky smooth mouthfeel and a mouth watering medium + acidity and medium to plus medium fine mouth coating tannins that move right into a long fresh red fruit finish. What I really love about this wine is it has a wonderful purity about it and is extremely well balanced. I hope everyone's weekend is a good one. Tres Vieilles Vignes Auxey-Duresses Pinot Noir 2014

The nose is perfumed, black fruit, very Pinot like as it is the case on the palate, fruit is ripe for a 2014, some structure along with good freshness and finesse that go hand in hand for this gorgeous bottle that was gone too fast.

Nez assez parfumé, fruits noirs et très pinot au nez tout comme en bouche, fruit assez mûr compte tenu du millésime, structure et finesse vont de pair, pur délice. 89-90
