La Jota Vineyard Co.

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Soft, lovely, bread-y nose of black currant fur, licorice, light mint forcing upward, sprouting through potting soil. Cinnamon and blueberry warmly embraced by dark bread and small specks of black pepper. Fruit tannins thickly house-painted across your front teeth in a real sense. Muscle. Licorice-charcoal, bitters, blackberry, black currant, graphite-smoke halo, black cherry, oak and cedar, wound up and closed in places, but powerhouse lurking in the shadows.

Cain Five Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2004

1 hour decant(decent fine/cloudy sediment). A remarkable dark purplish magenta color. On the nose: certain vintages really embrace the brett on the property, this is on the milder side. Notes of red plum, nutty vanilla, pine, funky wet earth, old leather, some cherry. Taste: smooth, delicate, silky wine with savory notes of cigar box, currants, wet dirt, peppery, little dark plum, cedar, slightly meaty. YUM! A very good vintage for Cain, a little more intensity could have increased the score even more. — a month ago

Undervalued producer. Well balance for such a youngster that is lush yet not over the top. — 10 days ago

Rattlesnake Ridge Howell Mountain Zinfandel 2010

Great wine for a cold winter’s night. 16.1% to ‘warm the soul’, although the heat was not prevalent. Excellent fruit. Do not drink in months without an “r”. 😎 — 2 days ago

Bodega Catena Zapata

High Mountain Vines Mendoza Malbec 2019

Well this is super tasty! Deep ruby red with a medium plus nose of blackberry, cassis, plum, vanilla and black pepper. It’s got a luscious nose.

The wine is dry, high acid, medium alcohol but medium plus body with smooth tannins that become more grippy towards the finish. Medium plus fruit intensity that follows the nose plus a leathery earthy finish with a lot of lush fruit. The finish is medium but finishes with oak.

It’s a good to very good wine. Would absolutely drink it again.

Very flavorful. Super smooth with no vinegar taste. Detecting black berries, cherry and a tiny hint of vanilla. Perfect start to the anniversary — 10 days ago

Cork near perfect. Would have held up to corkscrew. Nose of saddle leather and cherry. Cherry PnP that evolved into sour cherry 4 hrs in. Earth. Smooth. Tannins resolved. Not the brightness of the previous bottle. Lovely aged wine. — 3 days ago

This was past it’s prime ?!?!? Thought these wines should last 30 years and 2002 was a good vintage. I guess drink up!
