Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

After a three hour decant, this started to sing, with deep dark fruits, cassis, and a great finish. Exceptional Cabernet. — 3 years ago

Weingut Keller

Abts E de Riesling 2017

Stone dry almost austere. Meyer lemons, flint, chalk and delicious salt. Decant and leave it untouched for several hours it will sing. — 4 years ago

Long Shadows Vintners

Sequel Columbia Valley Syrah 2013

Give Sequel some time and it will sing for you. This one was right in the zone - beautiful dark blue/black fruit, a little earth. Concentrated stuff. — 3 years ago

Giacomo Conterno

Cascina Francia Barolo Nebbiolo 2007

Still young but smooth and integrated. Delicious dark plum and a solid core of gnarly fruit. Some dried herbs. Lovely balance. Fresh and intense. Needs time to really sing but very polished — 4 years ago

San Rustico

Vigneti del Gaso Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2011

Dried fruits and herbs. Quite easy drinking with a nice integrated structure and finish at first. On the label they say uncork 3 hours before serving and they’re not kidding. An hour after opening it was too simple a wine. A few hours later it’s starting to sing more. Seems also more structured? — 3 years ago

Domaine Camus-Bruchon & Fils

Narbantons Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2008

Dark rubi robe, nose of spices, crushed roses and dark cherries. Medium bodied, very fresh, balanced and complex but also bold structure, this is a joy of a wine done in the classical way. An enfant now but getting closer to drinking window. Give it 3 more years in bottle. It will sing. Enthusiastically recommended. — 3 years ago

Scarpa (Antica Casa Vinicola Scarpa)

Tettimorra Barolo Nebbiolo 2010

Beautiful aromas. Nose alone is a 9.4. Color is quite translucent in the glass - looks quite “traditional” in that sense. After a 2 hour decant, the fruit starts to sing a good deal. Tannins are there but on the more integrated side for Barolo. A touch restrained overall, but very nice. Excellent refreshing finish with good acid.

Moving up to 9.3 after another hour of air. Suggest decanting for 3-4 hours. Beautiful and seamless at this point.
