Smooth, silt, and subtle. Bright red cherry, a bit of oak, hint of vanilla. Balanced, a bit youthful. Best with a bit of focus —

This wine was produced when Led Zeppelin released Kashmir, and Queen released Bohemian Rhapsody. Letting that sink in as I swirl the glass.
The cork was slightly depressed, and it fell apart, so I had to do some first aid. All is well. The wine pours out a very deep garnet at its core, with tawny edges. So far so good.
The nose is old, and I was afraid of the musty notes, but I think it's healthy tertiary aromas, not spoilage. Mushroom and forest floor. I don't have a lot of experience with 50 year old wine. Hey, I was made the same year this wine was!
The palette is excellent. Plenty of fruit present.. cherry, candied apricot, slate, and Flintstone vitamins. It tastes young! If I had this blind I would guess it's 20 years old.
No sediment or silt. This still has hefty acidity and lingering, cedar-like tannins. Crazy. I've had current bottles bottles of Chateau Caruel, which is an inexpensive wine, and they just don't make them like they used to. This wine is legitimately elegant and delicious. 30 minutes in, and I'm wondering where I can buy a case. What a fun experience!
Listening to Led Zeppelin, duh. — 8 months ago

Powerful wine. Medium weight beautiful color. Slight silt on decant. The cherry is pronounced but the terroir is also evident and balances it nicely with earthy elements and roundness. Slightly puckering but only to give the wine breadth. It complimented the salty veal saltimbocca and I look forward to the next bottle. — 3 years ago
Here’s a dry, crisp white made from the Muscat variety (Muscat Blanc a Petits Grains), which is the same grape & has the same aromatic profile as the sweet, sparkling Moscato d’Asti wines of Italy, but was made in a dry, still & “French” style.
It was crafted by Domaine Zind-Humbrecht, an organic & biodynamic Alsatian producer, with fruit hailing from the Herrenweg vineyard of Turckheim, atop alluvial gravel & silt soils, in the sunny & dry Munster valley. ☀️🌱
Immediately I was struck by the perfumed bouquet of fruit & florals on the nose, which persist on the palate, featuring harmonious notes of citrus blossom, jasmine, honeysuckle, lilac, white peach, apricot, yellow apple, mandarin peel, beeswax, & wet stones. It’s dry, w/ medium alcohol, a medium body, balanced by a refreshing acidity.
It was a lovely pairing with the cucumber, watermelon, & feta salad, adding aromatic dimensions that complement the flavors of the salad, with a strong personality that doesn’t get lost in the shadows. Cheers! — 9 months ago

Very drinkable in mixed company. Fruit forward, dark cherry, plum, light oak, but not overly jammy. Likely valley floor grapes as sulfur and silt, earthy notes were less prevalent. Did not have to decant to be enjoyed but the depth of flavor continued to unfold over time. Wet mouth feel, likely less grape skin tannins makes this more universally approachable. Nice legs and inky hugh. I look forward to enjoying again. — 2 years ago

Caiarossa – “Pergolaia” Red blend– 2020
IGT Toscana – Riparbella, Alta Maremma – Italy 🇮🇹
Overview
A biodynamically farmed Super Tuscan red built around Sangiovese as the core, blended with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Pergolaia is Caiarossa’s most approachable expression, combining Mediterranean warmth with coastal freshness.
Aromas & Flavors
Red cherries, dried cranberry, tobacco leaf, and baking spices with hints of plum, cedar, and faint herbal tones. A mix of earthy Tuscan soul and dark-fruit Bordeaux flair.
Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied, supple, and structured with polished tannins and lively acidity. Balanced, savory, and elegant rather than opulent. The finish is clean with a gentle mineral echo.
Food Pairings
Pasta al ragù, roasted chicken, mushroom risotto, aged pecorino, or grilled sausages with herbs.
Verdict
A smart, quietly refined Tuscan blend, accessible yet serious, with the coastal lift that makes Caiarossa wines so compelling. A great value when you want nuance, not weight.
Did You Know?
Caiarossa farms according to Demeter-certified biodynamic principles, and their vineyards sit on a mix of clay, silt, and volcanic rock, a key reason for the signature mineral tension in their wines. — 5 months ago
