Cédric Bouchard

Roses de Jeanne Presle Blanc de Noirs Champagne 2015

One of my favorite cuvée’s from Bouchard. First time trying 2015. Shows serious power and intensity. Rich orchard fruit, gun smoke, baking spice, damp earth and perfumed citrus oils explode from the glass and on the palate. Gains volume and focus in the decanter and there’s just enough acid in this vintage adding freshness and holding it all together rather than being overly prevalent in its youth. Such a singular, vinous Champagne and the perfect example of Bouchard’s style. Love these wines. — 2 months ago

Signal Fire Calistoga Zinfandel

Very dark red color. Powerful earthy blackberry nose. Aromatic blackberry taste with a little leather and cedar. Smooth and slightly sweet. This is the 2017 - app currently bugged and won’t let me enter it. — 7 months ago

Pierre Brisset

Les Cras Chambolle Musigny Premier Cru Pinot Noir 2019

Lyle Fass

Really really small allocation of this in 2019 and whoever gets it is a lucky dog. Stunning beyond belief. Nose is all brambly cherries, brambly black cherry, some gorgeous mineral tones, gorgeous florals, so clear. The nose keeps opening and gaining nuance. So perfumed. So Chambolle. Omg the palate is why we drink, collect and chase Burgundy. It’s super tight but it is all there. Gorgeous purity, finesse and some serious structure. Crunchy and a bit tight but my goodness the depth, breadth and length signal we are in eliteville. What a finish. Pure soppy cherries. This is so old school as well. I’m not even sure if there is any new wood on this. If there is I don’t notice as Pierre is known to use 0% new wood on some of his elite 1er Cru reds. The kiss of cherry on the nose is growing . So pure and so much clarity. What inner mouth aromas. Terrific sweetness and structure. Elegant, complex and ethereal. The finesse is top notch but married to a 20+ year structure. So so long. Just impossibly long and there are apparent tannins and also late breaking tannins. Such sweet caressing fruit on the finish.

Omg this is an absurd work of art. So velvety, sweet and incredible tiny fruit intensity. 9.7 to 9.8 after 15 minutes.

El Desafio de Jonata Ballard Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

2017 vintage. No surprise that this is the best Ballard Canyon/SYV cab I've ever had. What is a surprise is that this is the best newer vintage California cab I've had this year. Throw this into your big gun Napa cab blind tasting and see where it ranks. May hafta reevaluate the California cab hierarchy. — 13 days ago

Le Gallet Blanc Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2018

Dan R

I love this feminine expression of Syrah, this one is still youthful but already approachable , with berry fruit, lavender, gun flint and iodine on the palate, a crunchy, mineral finish on a firm-but-not-rigid frame. Beautiful wine with a decade of evolution in front of it. Not sure it has the extract to go the long term, but who cares when it tastes this good now… — 5 months ago

Ronchi di Giancarlo Rocca

Ronchi Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2017

Really powerful, cherry, grilled apricot and stewed plum, earth, tar, gun metal, savory, very herbaceous and floral (reminiscent of green chartreuse). Discovering new flavors as it opens up. Nice grip, hot, lifted, fantastic finish. Should improve with time. — a month ago

Gruet Winery

Gilbert Gruet Grande Reserve 2016

Only available through the winery, this vintage NM sparkler tastes like a high end California bubbler. The nose is lemon, toasted bread, gun powdered, and nutmeg. On the palate you get lemon, lime, tart peach, white pepper, yeasty bread, quince, mango, toasted bread, and cooked plantains with fine bubbles. High and long lasting acid in the finish. World class. — 2 months ago
