Shepherd Neame

Taittinger

Comtes de Champagne Brut Rosé 2006

2006 vintage. Cork easy to extract. A rusty rosé color. Slightly dirty/earthy with light-medium body and still plenty of acidity to shepherd the proceedings along in a timely manner. Excellent depth on the finish and well-integrated perfume in the bouquet. Another solid 5-6 years at this level before any noticeable drop-off. 2.14.26. — 4 months ago

Château Grand-Pontet

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Definitely a Christmas Day wine. Blackberry, currants, mulled spices that cling to the back of the tongue. Pair with pets for a German Shepherd around the ears to achieve this face 🥴. — 4 years ago

Aldi

Specialy Selected London Porter

GV
9.0

Brewed by Shepheard Neame, Britain's oldest brewery, especially for Aldi, this porter is a good offering of the old style that once made up many a pint in pubs before the 1960s. A good dark colour with hints of coffee and chocolate and malt. Light carbonation with a tan head that dissipates slowly.
A good beer at a bargain £1.59 per bottle.

Tenuta Il Poggione

Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

Tenuta Il Poggione was founded at the end of 1800 when Lavinio Franceschi, land owner from Florence, decided to visit the area after hearing the stories from a shepherd, who brought his herds around Montalcino during the winter. #46 on Spectator’s 2017 top 100 list. I gave a blind tasting and threw this in with their Brunello, this “Baby Brunello” caused a stir! Red berry bouquet with cherry and citrus flavors, fine soft tannins, medium+ tangy finish ending with earthy spice notes. Great value! — 8 years ago

Bedrock Wine Co.

The Bedrock Heritage Sonoma Valley Red Blend 2015

The Bedrock Vineyard in Sonoma Valley was originally planted in 1854 by Civil War generals William “Tecumseh” Sherman and “Fightin” Joe Hooker (from left). It would be passed on to George Washington Whitman (Walt Whitman's younger brother) and then to the former American Consul to China Eli T. Shepherd (no pic), before being purchased by Senator George Hearst in 1888. He planted most of the vines that exist today, which were some of the first to be planted on American rootstock. #merica — 9 years ago

Tablas Creek Vineyard

Patelin de Tablas Blanc White Blend 2016

Tablas Creek has long been one of my favorite Paso Robles producers. From the care they put into their vineyards—biodynamic farming, noisy sheep, a rambunctious trio of winery dogs, and a resident shepherd—the good folks at Tablas turn out elegant wines that are nuanced, superbly balanced and long aging. For the price, they're just that much more attractive. The 2016 Patelin de Tablas is fresh, light, convivial. Lemon curd and yellow apple lifted by a starburst of white mineral acid that courses through the center. — 9 years ago

Two Shepherds

Ceja Farms Grenache Rosé 2014

Greg Ballington
9.3

Third Rosé of the tasting is the Grenache Rosé from Two Shepherd Wines. Absolutely beautiful in color, completely different than the Tercero Wines and a deeper and darker color than the Scalon Cellars. This Rosé was a deep rose pink almost magenta pink. Nose kept changing over the evening and even the next day. Straight out of the glass this wine attacked with strawberries and some white cherries. As it opened up there was a savory twist to it, very appealing for us. Moderate acidity (7/10), slightly less than the Tercero but was nicely balanced and in line with the moderate plus body. Beautiful texture and complexity. Acidity gripped the sides of your mouth mid palate and left you with a slight puckered feeling. Slightly dry finish that felt like it would not end. We enjoyed it best above fridge temperature, but give it a chance to warm up a little, the complexity continues to grow. Completely agree that we need to grab a few more of these before they are gone! Drink now till 2021. — 10 years ago
