This Sauvignon Blanc white wine has a vibrant, zesty smell of pineapple, lime and grapefruit for a sense of tropical.

Domaine du Pegau

Cuvée Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2018

One of the few producers that I purchase each and every vintage. I find that Laurence Feraud’s wines are consistently some of the more interesting and enjoyable wines made in all of Chateauneuf du Pape; particularly when value comes into play. This bottle is my first experience with her 2018 vintage and the first bottle of a small tranche that I swooped up upon release. Popped and poured; consumed over 5 hours. The color is deep ruby with a near opaque core; glossy and gorgeous to behold. Medium+ viscosity. On the nose, this is classic Pegaü with loads of dark cherry and bramble fruit, a veritable hillside full of garrigue, lavender, black pepper, and something that reminds me of old books. On that palate, the fruit is equally generous, brambles and cherries, exotic spices, Herbs de Provence and a somewhat sanguine-like character to it. Substantial structure, though it seems to be a notch lower than the previous three vintages at this point in its young life. The tannins are very sneaky. Almost imperceptible for the first hour and yet, by hour four, they were very much making themselves known (in the Medium+ range). Acid is also Medium+ indicating these have an exciting life ahead. The finish lasts for well over a minute. All in all, another lovely Pegaü that will likely live in the shadow of some of the more heralded vintages in the last ten years however, that doesn’t mean this isn’t a stunner. Absolutely lovely stuff and I very much look forward to enjoying these well into the 2030’s. — 5 years ago

Shadow Canyon Vineyard Syrah - Grenache Blend 2019

A perfect example of Russ From’s style, a powerful rendition of Syrah. Do not be out off by the abv - this is silky smooth and does not cone accross as hot by any means. — 8 months ago

The Shadow Langhorne Creek Shiraz Cabernet 2012

ESF
9.0

Dense dark inky huge extraction - massive wine w/blackberry & dark fruits along w/richer red fruit like raspberry, cherry & ripe currant. Subtle mint & pepper, really takes time to unwind. Flavors vivid Day 2. Soft plush smooth on palate with gobs of ripe fruit & spice. Seamless integrated tannins & lengthy finish. Manipulated style - not for me, but it is hedonistic. — 5 years ago

Jurassic Park Vineyard Chenin Blanc 2016

I’ve had Jurassic Park Chenin from a handful of producers and I really like Jeff Fischer’s version. It’s dry Chenin in the shadow of, maybe, Huet dry Chenin. Creamy and acidic, fruity, floral, and spiced. Peaches, white flowers, and baking spices upfront. It picks up body from the lees and some time in oak. — 7 years ago

High Sands McLaren Vale Grenache 2016

A highly awarded Grenache from McLaren Vale made by the talented Peter Fraser. Sweet red earthy fruits but not overly raspberry as Aussie Grenache often is. Has a lovely sweet smooth texture. James Halliday awarded this wine his Wine of the Year in 2020 and 99 points. Vines planted in 1946 in ancient sandy soils ideal for this Grenache. If not Australia’s best Grenache then certainly in the conversation. The main reason we drank this wine a few days ago was to remember Peter Fraser who sadly passed away unexpectedly in a tragic house fire. — 8 months ago

Château Gruaud Larose

Sarget de Gruaud Larose Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1999

Needs a couple hours of air & a few oz of 🥩
K&L notes as follows,

We sell a lot of this favorite second wine and the 1999 is quite elegant, with intense concentration and complexity. Plus, it is drinking well now. This estate is one of K&L’s veteran Bordeaux expert Ralph Sands’ favorites. I just tasted (July 7) another bottle from this recent shipment. Wonderful Bordeaux to drink tonight with a lamb chop. Some smoky aromas with cola and red fruit undertones. Typical, elegant 1999 Bordeaux with a sweet middle palate and smooth finish.

Nebbiolo 2015

Great local Nebbiolo (from Warner Springs, CA, not Willamette). Ripe cherries, tobacco, hint of wild garlic. Tannins are assertive, but drinkable. Worth a stop if you are in the inland SD County area after the pandemic clears. Alex and Pam are great folks (and currently shipping for free for members). — 6 years ago

Pontet Canet tasting and dinner with Alfred Tesseron.

The fruits are ripe, ruby. Blackberries, black raspberries, black plum skin, raspberries & strawberries. Dark rich soils, dark spice, crushed dry rocks, black licorice, tobacco, soft leather, graphite, Great balance fruit and earth. The body is velvety and statin. The structure, length, tension and balance are just coming around. The texture is gorgeous. The acidity is round and excellent. The finish delicious and persists nicely.

Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Awesome from first whiff to last sip! Smooth and crisp with plenty of flavour layers. White fleshed fruits, gooseberries, melon & lemon-lime. But the show stopper is fresh cut grass and herbs notes which blend in perfectly with these other layers to tantilize your mouth, then cast the shadow of fresh cut bell pepper and limestone to cleanse in the finish😃 #winecollective #nzsbtastespectacular #2017decanterrated95 — 8 years ago
