Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend

Wow. The over shadowed ‘99 vintage from La Mission. Intensely aromatic, deep and complex. Dried black fruits, sweet red currants, worn leather, black truffles, bbq spices and wet forest floor. Finishes with excellent length, elegance and poise. A fantastic showing now and with emphasis that it has the stuffing to go at least 10 years before decline. A true dark horse vintage for La Mission.

Outperforms the vintage. I find the 99’s are in a good place right now and this is one of the best I’ve had. Maybe a touch thinner than I am accustomed to with LMHB but still a phenomenal wine ready for prime time.

Lighter La Mission vintage perfect with Poulet Rôti

Cracked pepper attack before ripe melon. Youthful tannins still holding strong. Limited bouquet but opening up into a well balanced and approachable wine.

Beautiful. Tobacco, wet leaves, soil, black spice and mint. Evolved to be much better than expected. One of the better 1999.

Saw the shadow of a great La Mission but it faded after three hours

Drinking beautifully, a classic graves nose and fuller and more complete in the mouth than previous bottles. In a great point in its development and entirely ready to drink.

A pronounced note of Havana ash on the nose, with earth and blue and red fruits on the palate, this is very enjoyable now. Whether it gets any better depends on your preference for fruit or for more tertiary notes. If it's the former, drink up. If the latter, hold a couple of years.

Still youthful - needs time to open, but vibrancy and balance clear from opening. The intensity marks it out from other 99 claret I've had. A great new year treat.
