Single Vineyards Stellenbosch Syrah 2014

Plump and chewy with a core of blackberries and baking spice. Lush tannins with a mouthwatering finish. New world style but delicious. A WS Top 100 and well deserved. — 3 days ago

Estate Red Wine 2000

Raclette night. Closed out the night with this decanted beauty. Plum and prune nose with cedar box and some forest floor notes. Still a lot of fruit and life, integrated soft tanins and great acid. — 4 months ago

Coenie Snyman Cape Winemakers Guild CWG Auction Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2015

Greg Ballington

Our first time every at the Cape Winemakers Guild Auction and we will make sure to come back! (Tasting was on 9/28/18).

Seventeenth wine at the Friday Auction Tasting for the Cape Winemakers Guild and the sixth red wine. This is made up of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah, 5% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot by Coenie Snyman from the Stellenbosch region. Aged for a total of twenty-two months prior to bottling. Only 53 cases of 750 ml produced with 36 being auctioned in 2018. Additionally there were 13 cases of magnums with 10 being auctioned in 2018.

Dark and deep garnet with with a little bit of ruby in the core. Lovely nose with layers of vanilla, cinnamon, cedar, earth and black currants. Medium plus tannins (7/10) and full bodied. A bit of wood and earth on the palate with some chalky gravel, black currants and cassis. Long and lingering dry finish. Drink till 2030.

$$$ - Tasted at the Cape Winemakers Auction. Average bid at auction was R6,778.00 ($79.78 a bottle) a case. Highest bid was R7,600.00 ($89.40 a bottle) and lowest bid was R6,400.00 ($75.28 a bottle).

Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Burst of green bell pepper at the start that’s fading to dusty ripe fruit on the verge of jammy, but not there yet. Baking spices to an almost berry pie without a crust flavor. Tannins form a firm backbone and has a sweet to spicy to round ripe finish. Delicious. — 2 months ago
