Germano Ettore

Lazzarito Riserva Barolo Nebbiolo 2016

Ming L
9.1

Ettore Germano only bottles Lazzarito as a Riserva, which is the estate’s flagship bottling.

It’s not quite ready yet after a decade. The initial nose is dominated by iron, leather, and earthy mineral tones. After about 2 hours in the decanter, layers of red cherry, rosehip, and dried orange peel gradually emerge. The palate is powerful and tightly wound, framed by vibrant acidity and firm tannins that have yet to fully knit into the fruit. This is a serious Barolo whose best years still appear to lie well ahead.

Deuxieme Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

Margaux perfume with underneath the red fruits; wood fire, rose petals, iron and cigar box. Palate of summer forest floor, black tea, rosehip, prunes and dried strawberries. Gently drying tannines guide you to a smooth long finish. A lovely wine. — 3 years ago

Ried Hochberg Mittelburgenland Blaufränkisch 2018

Open & engaging nose, with rosehip & mint at the beginning, followed by black & blueberries. There’s a whiff of fresh orange zest in the background.
On the palate this starts with velvety & warm, yet finishes on a cool, liberal note.
Sweet ripe blackberries & yellow pear compote. Firm yet polished & juicy tannins and great flow.
This is surprisingly fine & elegant and drinks beautifully! And hard to beat for value at 12€!

Stunningly beautiful brownish copper colour. Starts a bit shy, but is just singing from the top of its lungs after a while. Leather, sous bouis, rosehip, a bit of tar and orange zest. Great balance and length. — 5 years ago

Beautiful medium salmon colour with strawberries, pomegranate, rosehip and unripe melon with nice whiffs of yeasty bread. Dry, light body with tiny energetic bubbles and quite high in acidity. Beautiful flavours of strawberry, sour cherries, apricot and some bitter citrus in the long finish, with a touch of nuttiness. Lovely! — 5 years ago

Gran Reserva 904 Rioja Tempranillo Graciano 2001

Bright, fresh and vigorous aromas of cherryfruit, pomegranate, rosehip and brown spices like cinnamon. Also touches of caramel, coconut and dried leaves/flowers. Soft acidity, medium-plus body and a long, smooth finish. Drinking great at age 20. Certainly a decade of life left in this wine.
Tremendous stuff.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend 2021

Fancy bottle. Color is ruby red. Smells like rosehip and red zinger tea. Flavors are excellent. Smooth and easy. But complex and tart. All the good fruits like raspberry and cherry. Fresh. Elegant. I like it. — 2 years ago

El Pensador

The Thinker Campo de Borja Garnacha 2020

Classic, pretty Spanish label of abstract art evoking greens and blues of the ocean. Great garnet red color. Smells like mineral water, painter’s tape, rosewood and smoked pork products. Flavors of rosewater & cherries in a rich cheesecake. Or maybe a bit of Red Zinger and rosehip tea with a bit of red grape juice in it. Very floral with elderberry jelly, raspberry sorbet and flower essences all in the mix. For a screw-top cheapie at Grocery Outlet, this is excellent, graceful garnacha. — 2 years ago

Beautiful medium deep salmon colour with aromas of candied apple, strawberry, apricot, honey, grapefruit and some rosehip. Intense and dynamic tiny bubbles that turn into velvet. A touch of sweetness but not sweet, balanced by a fresh acidity. On the palate, strawberries in cream, red apple, pomegrenate, lemon zest and honey with a nice long strawberry and sourdough finish. Gorgeous, complex and balanced. Loved this wine! — 5 years ago

Woodsy berries, wild cherries, herbs, rosehip, beach plum. This is so pretty and textured - and light- and there’s a hint of barnyard that accentuates the elegance. Clarity and lightness. A subtle bitter finish and modest tannins. Pairs perfectly with late summer fare. — 5 years ago
