Big Basin Vineyards

Coastview Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

N: lots of rhubarb and faint cinnamon, some bark, woodland, some strawberries.
P: Reddish/Brown on the palate, very….cedar. Nice acidity, but very gentle. Almost funky, you want some more funk, but nooo. Red fruits down the middle, lovely mouthfeel. @ wtso bargain. You feel good about it, but it’s not gonna rock your world.
Addendum: 2nd day, kept refrigerated w rubber stopper, definite tannic development and palate interest.
I bet w much air time, these might just deliver above their price pt.

Envinate

Lousas Parcela Seoane Mencía 2019

Baby’s 1st parcela unica and gotta say, it delivered! I like the Envinate Lousas wines—they’re always pretty good but usually a bit green and not profundo imo. This one started that way but as it opened, the high acid rolled off to reveal an extremely terroir driven wine, ripping w tension and minerality. The Lousas mencias usually give fancy n rhone vibes to me (i.e. entry level jamet), but Seoane had more of a juicy mineral burg thing going on (think Irancy) than a meaty rock thing. The bride observed wisely that this wine tasted very mineral and oceanic, but more like a seaside cliff than a briny beach. — 7 months ago

Château Pichon-Longueville Baron

Baron de Pichon-Longueville Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1992

Boooooya. It's 30 years old and still extremely lively and somehow not too much aged (!!?) mocha, espresso and black currant. Sublime palate with still a wall of tannins that leaves a layer of dust. 30 freaking years and effing kicking. Rock and roll y'all — 2 years ago

Cantina del Pino

Ovello Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2016

A m a z I n g. Fine furry tannins straight away so we decanted. One hour later this was singing. The nose was so pretty with cacao powder, faint sweet tarragon, and strawberries. Mouth coating raspberry fruit roll ups, smooth tannins makes this beautiful. TBL — 3 years ago

Domaine Ramonet

Les Caillerets Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2013

Ramonet is not far from Ramones 🤪 and also in the wine is some rock and roll! The rock is in the soil from the wine yard, and in the chalky citrus dominated nose. Also some dried flowers in a summer wind are swarming around in the glass. The roll stands for the roll from the English explanation (the sides), the edges of this wine are spicy and full of some citrus and a woody backbone. Love it! — 2 years ago

Château de la Dauphine

Fronsac Merlot Cabernet Franc 2015

2016 vintage. Really light nose of mint and dust. Medium heavy body. Full of Tootsie Roll, ripe plum and dark cherry flavor traits. Really nice QPR/Bang for the buck. Super-approachable and forward now but it’ll rock steady until you’re ready to tackle those cellared wines you’re eschewing from the new millennium. Would make a great event/party wine where varied (non) palates are in play. — 3 years ago
