Ochetti Langhe Nebbiolo 2018

A near perfect Italian red to pair with a great red sauce pasta meal: mature red fruits, commanding on the nose and dry finish on the palate - but all done in a way as to or distract from the meal you are enjoying. Would pour this with any red meat/red sauce/string cheese as it makes a perfect dance partner for a wonderful evening! — 24 days ago

Terrazze Retiche di Sondrio Nebbiolo Rosato 2018

This bottle is by far the craziest one yet. Nose is just magic. Elite smokey watermelon. Roses that are so in your face. Layered. It smells like Grand Cru Burgundy. This is amazing. It’s got one foot in Burgundy, one foot in Provence and one foot in Valtellina. Wow. A stunning nose. 9.6 I think on the nose. Palate is so fresh, so concentrated and so tangy with beautiful citrus fruits and insane palate presence. Sappy, long, elegant and pure. Amazing length, structure and grip. Magnificent. — 2 months ago

Battaglione Barbera d'Asti 2019

Located halfway up the hill dominating the principal valley of Barolo, supported by steep slopes lined by orderly vineyards, lies the 15th century Abbey of Annunziata. Deep Ruby with aromas of ripe berry fruits and pepper spice. On the palate flavors of cherry and strawberry, lively spice, well balanced with savory fine tannins on a medium+ finish ending with mineral character. — a month ago

Rocche Barolo Nebbiolo 2006

Pop and pour. A modern-styled barolo that seems fully mature. On the nose: coffee, black licorice, blood orange, tar, but the coffee/toast is dominant. On the palate: tar and aggressive, grainy tannin, which quickly smothers any fruit in a thick coat of dark chocolate and toast. Very grainy tannin on the finish, which strangely ends slightly watery. One more bottle, but best to drink it sooner rather than later. — 2 months ago

Weird. I associate this producer with top-flight wines.

@Tom Casagrande I get the impression there was a weird modern phase that, sadly, coincided with this and surrounding vintages. Other more recent vintages and older vintages have shown much better for me.

This needs 12-24 hours before it really gets there. But it is a stunning wine. Chestnut, roses, melting road tar, floral like crazy, rock and soil tones and so much more and very nuanced. Concentrated and velvety with terrific purity and sappiness. Amazing length but only showing 15% of itself. Such purity but people need patience. Insanely complex wine but my score will go up after this airs out. — a month ago

Beautiful light color but such clarity. Nose is mega spice and old chestnut. Very complex and ethereal. Faint leather scents. Real fineness to the aromas and breadth. But air will help them more. Palate is wonderful with mid season and sour cherries but also needs to open up and flesh out. Really fine and delicate tannins that build with that earthy sweet fruit on the finish. This also has remarkable finesse. Nose gets sawdust and cigar tobacco now. Really wonderful silky texture and intense minerality on the finish. There is no shortage of brightness and energy here. I’ll be back as I know this will blossom. — 4 months ago
