Raphaël Midoir

De Silex et Tuffeau Touraine Sauvignon Blanc

Really solid and wonderfully stereotypical Touraine. Honeysuckle and banana, a bit of citric on the nose too. Quite clean but with a bit of a chalky/crushed stone element that adds structure to the tropical flavors you’d expect. — 2 years ago

La Plaine des Cailloux Oisly Touraine Sauvignon Blanc 2018

This 2018 Raphaël Midoir Touraine Oisly La Plaine des Cailloux looks beautiful in the glass, with a rich golden color suggesting either age or sweetness. It is definitely not a dessert wine, so it is possible that the five years are showing in the color. However, it is said that the golden color is an identifying feature of wines from the Touraine Oisly. The palate is full of apples and flowers, while the palate has a savory presentation of citrus, apricot and just a hint of grapefruit. It is definitely an old world Sauvignon Blanc, with all the elegance that implies. — 5 months ago

Domaine Les Monts Fournois

Côte Cramant Grand Cru Chardonnay 2016

Shay A
9.3

@Delectable Wine : This is a new producer, Domaine Les Monts Fournois, and the cuvée is the “Cote” Cramant Grand Cru.

Had the opportunity to purchase a bottle from this new producer. For context, Juliette had the mentorship of her close cousins, Raphaël and Vincent Bérêche, when beginning this project. Her previous experience was with producers like Louis Latour, G.D. Vajra and Louis Roederer Champagne.

Consumed half from bottle over the course of two hours, then corked and consumed the rest later in the evening.

2015 was the first vintage, so this is second release. Would have loved to try this side by side with Bereche’s Cramant offering. Naturally I wanted to find a Bereche vibe to this, yet this was mostly its own style. For the first half, this was fairly gnarly. Not ripping acid, but not for the faint of heart either. Bright lemon zest, sea spray, faint orchard fruit, and white flowers. As it warms, it’s expansive and powerful on the palate. Limestone, minerals, lemon confit too. When I revisited later in the evening after setting aside for a few hours, it channeled a Bereche flair with a deeper/more rich mid-palate with gold/yellow fruit, and spiced cider. Very intriguing. Obviously young, this producer is worth following.

Nice! A no sulfur wine that didn’t bring the barnyard!

Pauline Collin Bérêche

Montagne de Reims - Ludes 1er Cru Vieilles Vignes Champagne Pinot Noir 2016

Inaugural release from Pauline, Raphaël Bérèche’s wife. Made of old-vine Pinot Noir from her own family’s estate. 48 months on lees and with a dosage of 3.5 g/l. Scarce as hen’s teeth with a mere 1996 bottles produced. Delicious, though I did find it a tad simple (and primary). Heaps of green apples and citrus fruits. Tasted almost like Zapple for those in the know. Air did coax out the more mineralic elements, along with hints of nuttiness and toast. Good energy. A lovely first release and definitely one to follow. — 7 months ago

Les Vins Pirouettes

Eros By Vincent Alsace Pinot Gris Blend 2021

This is EROS DE RAPHAËL. 2021
A bit tight when it opened but after 15 minutes the great qualities of Pinot Gris and gewurztraminer started to roll out of the glass. Cinnamon, grapefruit, rose and... carrots!
A cloudy nat blend. High but not sharp acids, an IPA like bitterness.
