Oloroso Sherry

R. López de Heredia

Viña Gravonia Crianza Rioja Viura 2015

From MM's private cellar since she buys everything she gets. Smells like a sherry with almonds and citrus, light on the palate but with texture, and still some acid along with all the almondy goodness.

East India Solera Sherry Palomino Fino Pedro Ximénez

This wine has a burnished look, deep brown. The nose is a treat all on its own. There are aromas of brown sugar, coffee and orange zest which combine for an amazing olfactory experience. The palate is just as joyful, with caramel, raisin and mocha notes. The acidity is fresh and exhilarating. Although the wine is described on the label as “cream,” it does not strike me as creamy. The viscosity is nice, though. It will pair well with dessert, or serve as one by itself. — 7 months ago

El Candado Sherry Pedro Ximénez

If there’s a better PX sherry out there, I’d love to know. In my experience, this is as good as it gets. — 2 months ago

Moscatel Dorado Jerez-Xérès-Sherry

NV. Enjoyed this same wine with dessert at Jaleo recently and it paired great again today at Bar Spero with the torrijas with pumpkin sauce and green walnuts.

Viña Tondonia Rioja Rosé Blend 2010

A timeless gem that escapes boundaries. Poised, elegant, unconventional.
The nose is somewhere between a fino sherry, a v. light Vernatsch and southern Rhône white. Nutty, salty with dried strawberries, hibiscus, but also some sharp lemon freshness. A meditation wine - changing, evolving, enticing.
Silky & a bit creamy on the palate, with a touch of tannins, sharp, salty acidity, almost fruitless - and yet with such depth, precision & presence. This is as far from the avg. rosé as it gets. A mind boggling, delicious, slightly funky, grand wine. Amazing.
And at 13y - a baby.
