2018 vintage. Mint, cinnamon, molasses, spent coffee grounds, cassis and orange peel compose the bouquet. Medium body but medium/big tannins. Orange-based tea and earthy finish. Meanders in an endearing manner with just enough richness to coat and mitigate multiple astringent flavors…and ultimately…comes into focus pushing a really delicious balance. Ignore at your own peril/price point. — 4 years ago
It’s official - happy 40th @deked1! Wine is deep ruby hue, heavy tearing. Creme de cassis, molasses, pipe tobacco, nutmeg and baking spices, vanilla and oak. Pop and pour variety, fruit and oak forward. Velveteen texture.

Inky dark purple, bold nose with dark cherries, blackcurrant, blackberry jam and a touch of smoke and baking spice. Chewy tannins that recede softly with a medium acidity and a certain sweetness. On the palate, very fruit forward with dark cherries, jammy figs and molasses with some earthy dark potting soil and notes of wet hay. Nice medium long finish that leaves you with a hot feeling. — 3 years ago

Probably my favourite rum - it’s from Guatemala. They use virgin sugar cane honey - the first pressing of the sugar cane, unlike most rums which use molasses. As I’ve mentioned in previous notes on Delectable, aromas of burnt caramel, tar and molasses. Aged in a Solera system at 2300 metres above sea level. Firstly in American Oak Barrels then in charred American Oak barrels, then in barrels that previously aged Sherry and finally in barrels that previously aged Pedro Ximinez. Very smooth and dangerously drinkable. — 7 days ago
