Wow. Wow. Wow. Insane 9.8 nose. Jumps out and grabs your nostrils. Canned peach juice, sweet apricots, insane minerality and gorgeous sweetness from the whole spectrum. Sweet citrus, sweet apricot, sweet guava, sweet pineapple and sweet guava. Stunning nose. Just freezes you. Palate is rich and viscous but fresh, energetic and incisive. So textured like icing on a cake and enormous concentration and uncommon depth. So nimble and pretty. So pure. The fruit matches the aromas. Tangerine and blood orange start to develop on the nose. Stunning. Insane inner mouth aromas and terrific acidity and just endless depth. So sappy, viscous and long. Awesome structure. Equivalent to a German BA. Genius wine. Finest domestic sweet wine I’ve ever had. Like all elite sweet wines it has a savory element on the finish and finishes dry-ish and mineral. Stunning.

Wow this got super complex with air and is so crazy. Maybe a 9.8. I’ll see tomorrow. Amazing acids and freshness!

Huge massive minerals on the nose. Wow. Wonderful freshness and purity. Citrus and apricots. Canned peach juice. Vulcanized rubber. Saffron. Spice. So complex. Tangerine. Blood orange. Palate is rich and there is good botrytis and very good acidity but not like 19 or 15. The freshness is from minerals. Amazing cleanliness and super pure and deep. This is backwards initially and I’ll track it throughout the day. This needs to fill in some.

Wow has this got filigreed with air. Nose is now classic Huhnerberg with a deep resin like spice. Palate is unctuous, fresh and ripe. So super pure. Wow.

Bordeaux-Style Malbec Blend 2017

Dark ruby in color, almost Inky, with a short reddish rim.

Very unique nose of black currants, black plums, red cherries, cranberries, spices, light oak, licorice, vanilla, green pepper, cardamom, dark coffee and tobacco.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with cherries, black plums, blueberries, light wood, earth, spices, tobacco leaf, chocolates and peppercorn.

Nice tangy finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very interesting Malbec blend from Sonoma. Fruit forward and elegant. Showing nice complexity and mouthfeel. Tangy, and a good food wine. Alcohol is nicely integrated, so watch yourself.

The nose is very interesting, which was a nice surprise, once it opened up. Better after 90 minutes in the decanter.

This 4 year old will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years. Would be nice to revisit it then.

I paired it with a fatty Brie cheese and crackers.

A blend of 46% Malbec, 30% Petit Verdot and 24% Cabernet Sauvignon. Grapes were aged separately for 3 years in French oak barrels.

14.8% alcohol by volume.

Sweet, juicy nose and very light, bright taste for a cab. Notes of tart cherry, and not quite ripe plum. Vanilla. Would love if it was a bit smokier but it's a decent weeknight wine. — 8 days ago

Eagle Point Ranch Counoise 2018

This reminds me of a Loire Gamay. Gobs of tangy berry fruit leaps out of the glass, with a bit of spice and lots of high-toned cracked stone (almost limestoney) minerality. It’s zingy and bright in the mouth, with lots of bright berries and a bit of spice. Fluid textured with little to no tannin, it’s got zingy acids and a cleansing finish. What an exuberant nose of citrus, honey, sweet pink grapefruit, amazing depth and dripping with purity and vividness. Citrus oil and dazzling minerality. American Grosses Gewachs to the max here. Much more open and less shy than the 18 was at this stage. Wet earth, wet rocks as well. Enormously complex. Jellied citrus as well. Wow. Palate is full of citrus but also has a seriously stoney base. So juicy, luscious and straight as an arrow. Amazing focus and linearity with insane confectionery fruit flavors. So balanced and stunning purity. What a wine. Sickness. What a finish. The balance here is perfect and the finish lasts a minute! This has such classy citrus elements on the finish that dance and echo for minutes. — 6 days ago

McDougall Ranch Pinot Noir 2018

A really attractive medium ruby in the glass with thin, purple edges. Right out of the gate, you can smell the stemmy character of the wine. Plenty of herbs and characteristic Pinot underbrush happening here. Really pretty floral notes come in and really take things to a new level. Red cherries, raspberries, and muted wild strawberries. A nice bit of spice and smoke wafts from the glass after a little air. On day 2, this holds up quite well with a little light chocolate and more expressive fruit.

100% whole cluster fruit and tiny production. Medium bodied and all natural in every way. Purity of fruit is high here and this is a very terroir driven Pinot. Blessedly low alcohol at 13.5 and showing nice balance at this age, even though this is definitely one to cellar. The palate follows the nose with fresh red fruit and spice up front. More savory notes come through as it grows in the glass. One of my favorite Pinots of this year, easily.

Campbell Ranch Vineyard Syrah 2019

Dark purple and ruby out of the bottle. Solid fruit and damp leaves on the nose. Deep and bright with many layers that opened over a 2-3 hour decant. Great balance of fruit, acid and a deeply tannic finish. Drink now, or see what happens in 5-10 years. Can’t go wrong. — 18 days ago
